Said I cared enough about this to call all the way from California.
IMPEACHMENT is no longer just an option.
IMPEACHMENT is now the ONLY option.
And once we get there, we work for REMOVAL FROM OFFICE.
BTW - do NOT let it scare you that cheney might take over then. Hell, he's already THERE! We all know he's the unspoken "pResident" already. Doesn't matter a bit to me. In fact, it might just be fun!
Consider this:
By the time we reach the point where IMPEACHMENT of bush really is in play (and I believe it more and more by the day, and by the poll numbers), I suspect mr. "go fuck yourself" will be mighty uncomfortable. You MUST understand this, psychologically, about cheney: he likes the dark. He prefers the shadows and the duck (quail?) blinds and the corners behind the curtains. He likes all those nice big rocks he can crawl under and hide - while he does his dirty business. Out of sight, out of mind. He lives by this. There's nothing he hates more than having to operate out in the open, up front, in the sunshine, where EVERYBODY can see what he's up to. He's spent too long as a CEO where he gets to play god in his own little private fiefdom where nobody questions or challenges lest they get fired or bounced off the board. But this isn't the private sector, and his business IS our business, by definition, much as he rejects this and expects to keep it all hidden from us. You know that old maxim about the wisdom of keeping your act on the up-n-up, and not doing anything you don't want people to see? Well, he's the opposite, perhaps because what he doesn't want people to see is all the stuff about which/with which he's up to no good. Because everything he's up to is FISHY AS HELL!!!! And smells WORSE!!!! cheney thrust into the center ring, where all eyes are on him and he can't hide as he has up til now would be exquisite - he'd be so far out of his comfort zone he'd be a basket case. Might not show it to the public, but I guarantee you, behind whatever closed doors he'll still have reliably at his disposal he'll be ranting and raging and spitting fire and brimstone. He'll HATE it. So if IMPEACHMENT and REMOVAL of bush is what happens to him, FINE!
Keep this in mind, too: When we get to that point, the waters will be so polluted for the republi-CONS, and the whole bush/cheney/rove machine will be so radioactive they won't be able to get a lot done. Besides, you have to figure that, by then, most of 'em will be knee-deep in their own legal defense predicaments, because they'll either be bounced for some sort of chicanery or they'll be hovering on the brink of it and assembling their defense teams and strategies. And once we reach THAT point, any vestige of coattails bush/cheney may have boasted will be LONG gone. NOBODY wants to hitch their wagon to an anvil. And anvils are just what bush/cheney and friends will be. I'm old enough to remember Watergate and Nixon and how much of his party he took down with him in the next election cycle(S). I'm old enough to remember when nobody in their "right" minds would admit to being republi-CON, much less ever voting for one. I think the way things are going now, we're going to see times like those again. Indeed, even though many of them won't say it, the mere fact that pundits/pollsters/press people actually are speaking and writing the words about "Republicans in Disarray," or the questioning about whether he's a lame duck now, or whether people will want him campaigning for them, or the accellerating drive among party people to "distance themselves from bush," or the panic and anger and fear in the party because they see their ship sinking and their captain without a clue and everything they've worked for, for 40 years, about to be up-ended into the trash bin of history - THAT FACT ALONE tells you we're on the way to seeing those times again. NOBODY wants to go down with the ship. NOBODY wants to sidle up to a loser. NOBODY wants to hitch their wagons to an anvil. It'll be slow go with some of 'em because nobody wants to admit they've been had, or been played, or been fooled, or been lied to - and bought it, either. So some of 'em will be VERY slow to come around. But come around, they will. Most of them will.
FURTHERMORE, please keep THIS in mind, as well:
ANY. TIME. YOU. HEAR. ANYONE. SAY... that we can't IMPEACH bush because our party saw what happened when the republi-CONS impeached Clinton, and how it backfired on 'em and how the public wasn't for it, so the same thing will happen here - THAT'S JUST WRONG. REPEAT: THAT'S. JUST. WRONG.
HERE'S WHY: Back when Clinton was being persecuted, he had job approval numbers up in the mid-60's. REPEAT: MID-60'S. The reason was, most Americans appreciated, deep-down, the dynamic at work here - that they were impeaching Clinton because he lied about cheating on his wife - a personal peccadillo that has NOTHING to do with how he functioned as President. Especially when how he functioned as President was nothing short of superb. He was effective, smart, caring, involved, hard-working, charming, and very savvy. He accomplished things. He got stuff done. He didn't fuck up too much else. He was seen as doing a fair/good/excellent job by a vast majority of Americans. We were at peace as a nation, we stood tall in the world in the eyes of other nations and peoples, we had some money in the bank, and far more jobs and prospects for the future. Things were generally bright and upbeat. I've had Republican friends admit to me that business was so much better when Clinton was president, and that, for this reason alone, they wished he was back in power. They HUGELY preferred the way he ran things than the way this weasel/idiot/thief-in-chief is "leading." Furthermore, we weren't involved in a dead-end war that we were LIED into fighting, we wouldn't have all those nice body bags and transfer tubes shipped home in the dark where we can't even know about them to honor their sacrifice, and we have a "pResident" who has to turn all the lights off (including the LANDING LIGHTS) of Air Force Frickin' ONE before he can even land in a foreign airport (Pakistan, just recently). That NEVER EVER EVER would have been the case during Clinton's presidency. NOT EVER.
OF COURSE people would be put off by an IMPEACHMENT of a truly popular, effective, mostly agreeable president - one who had good overall job approval numbers. One under whose aegis we enjoyed peace and prosperity as a nation. NO WONDER it left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths. THAT IS NOT THE SAME DYNAMIC OPERATING HERE, GUYS!!!! NOT AT ALL!!!! And NO bushbot ANYWHERE can make that claim. They lost the privilege of doing that in their first year. Squandered it with their "I know better than you" shitty management and sneaky-ass double-dealing and petty vindictiveness and phony victimization and hard-ons to settle a lot of scores. And they squandered that opportunity BEFORE 9/11.
PLEASE understand this. Don't let the bad guys put you off or shake your resolve. They're blowin' smoke and just hoping you'll fall for it, the way some unapologetic, closed-minded dittoheads and freepers keep doing. But you're smarter. That's THEIR problem, not yours. And it'll be bush's problem, cheney's problem, and the entire republi-CON party's problem as this dreadful predicament continues and only gets worse. By the time we've achieved critical mass, and the conditions ripe for IMPEACHMENT, and perhaps even REMOVAL FROM OFFICE, I suspect bush will WISH he had job approval numbers as good as 36 percent. By that time, he and his will be so radioactive that much of this will become a foregone conclusion, and a self-fulfilling prophesy. By then, the momentum will be HUGE, and will be ALL OURS. By then, NOBODY will be put off by an IMPEACHMENT - of a truly UNPOPULAR, INEFFECTIVE, MOSTLY DISAGREEABLE "pResident," one who's famous for lying about everything BUT cheating on his wife, whose lies have gotten a lot of people killed, and two countries trashed (not including our own, btw), and our national security irreparably compromised by blowing the cover of a CIA NOC and selling our ports to the Arabs (oh SUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE, we're safer now, aren't we?) and motivating a whole shitload of angry fanatics to take up arms against us. If there was no al Qaeda action in Iraq before, we've made it happen now with our damned, accursed war. And Clinton didn't do that. And the public recognized that, either straight-out or deep-down. The American people KNOW the dynamics in play now are NOT the same as those in play back when Clinton was persecuted and impeached. That's why any concerns voiced by ANYBODY, ours OR theirs, that a bush IMPEACHMENT isn't an option - are HOGWASH.
Don't. Forget. That.
IMPEACHMENT isn't JUST an option anymore.
It's an ESSENTIAL to the survival of our democracy and what's left of our Constitution. You know, that annoying thing that bush has dismissed in private as "just a piece of paper."
IMPEACHMENT, now, is the ONLY option.
Keep visualizing...
Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!! And then go DO something about it.
NOW, MORE THAN EVER!!!
