Jessica Simpson snubs Bush

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Concerned about politicizing her favorite charity, singer-actress Jessica Simpson on Wednesday turned down a invitation to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush, a snub that left Republicans dismayed.

The apparent final word that Simpson would be a no-show at a major Republican fund-raiser with Bush and congressional leaders on Thursday night came after a day of conflicting reports from her camp and organizers of the event.

...

People close to Simpson said she declined a request to appear that same evening at the gala fund-raiser of the National Republican Congressional Committee -- even after she was offered some private face time with Bush -- because Operation Smile is a non-partisan group.

"It just feels wrong," one Simpson insider told Reuters on Wednesday, adding that the actress keeps her political views private. "She would love to meet the president and talk about Operation Smile ... but she can't do it at a fund-raiser for the Republican Party."

1. Sounds like her agent had a frank talk with her
I'm sure that if Baby Bush had a 65% approval rating, that she would interpret the code of conduct differently.

I agree with another poster that her artistry is poor. I would not even go see her perform if I was paid. Her commercial with Pizza Hut is so pathetic. And no surprise that Miss Piggy did a rendition of it mocking her.

67. She has a few Top ten hits
And not to condescend by stating the obvious, but popular people like Jessica Simpson have influence in the world no matter how effite you want to be about it. She is downright awful from an strictly artistic standpoint, but has oodles of adoring fans who hopefully will learn a valuable lesson about how media and politics work. Perhaps they may even wonder what happened to the Dixie Chicks. You ask why we should care? Because any story that breaks through the barriers of information nowadays is welcome in my book. And Jessica Simpson's fan base just happens reside mostly in Bush territory ideologically.

And another reason to care about this wrinkle in time as it were, is that we Democrats need some more bubble gum chewing, fun-loving, put the party back in the party liberals on our side to keep us from sounding so freaking uppity all the time. I've just about had it with Democrats poo-pooing the popular culture. Sure its vapid and at times lame, but a lot of fun things are just plain hedonistic. I don't know why good old fashioned hedonism is outside of the Democratic party platform. Why can't it be fun-loving, sexy and playful to be on the left for crying out loud?!?!

8. Oh this must be because she is divorcing and doesn't appear
to be the oh so good Christian her father claimed the whole family to be. Which they all may be. I really do not know what these people do in their private lives. However, divorce is not considered a sin in the Bible if the spouse was committing adultry. Well, she was, so Nick Lachey should feel okay about his religious beliefs.

Another thing. When they had their reality show, they stood and stated that they supported Bush and voted for him. Why the freeze-out now?

The deal was made two years ago this summer, at the time the CIA and DoD IGs stsrted the Plame and Franklin prosecutions. The deal was that Bush and Cheney would be spared to direct consequences of treason if they left by this summer.

The GOP leadership and corporate media have signed on, without really knowing why.

They're going like Elsie. Life is a Cabaret, Ol Chum.

26. You know things are bad when...
Jessica Simpson snubs Bush. I think she is a Bush supporter.

There was an episode of Newlyweds one time, when she and Nick were babysitting for a friend of theirs.

Jessica is holding the friend's baby in her arms, watching Idiot Son on tv., and saying "that's our President" or something like that. Like she was proud of Bush.

36. her sister was at a Kerry fundraiser
i'm thinking Jessica probably was never really a Republican but just more non partisan and would have attended the inauguration even if it was Gore or some other Dem and did the whole "support your pres" thing.

if it's true about Nick and i know Ashlee went to a Kerry fundraiser, maybe she did learn some things since the time she performed for the asshole.

also, remember she didn't perform at the inaugeration the 2nd time.

55. Jessica was great on SNL....
Kudos to her for snubbing Bush. Here's a story about a local businessman who was invited to the same fund-raiser....

http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=31006

"Richards could get his trophy at the March 15–16 Annual Tax Summit, in Washington, D.C. On the first day he would lunch with Senior Presidential Adviser Karl Rove. On the second day he would sup with President George W. Bush."

Seems the NRCC is engaging in all kinds of deceitful fund-raining activities!

58. I have absolutely NO IDEA who this woman is - someone
want to clue me in? (You now get an idea of how much of my energy and attention is spent on the MSM.)

I just found out yesterday who Natalie Holloway (sp?) is. This made me decide I needed to raise my head into "popular" news - It's giving me more insight into how we got into this mess.

63. She and Lachey went to Iraq and were appalled at what they saw
They shot video over there, and they were going to air it on their TV show to educate people how it really was going over there. ABC refused. As I recall, Simpson and Lachey were pretty pissed about the incident.

65. Jessica Simpson has sent mixed signals about Bush & GOP ....
I think a lot of her conversative beliefs are due to her upbringing (particularly that overbearing dad) and her circle of friends along with being somewhat living in a bubble and being a person who likes to please and a bit naiveté, but she did marry Nick Lachey, who once said he would like to run as Gov. of Ohio as a Democrat and she spoke out about how terrible things were in Iraq when she went there (bravier than the chickenhawks,) but she was naiveté in thinking ABC would air footage supporting that.

87. This sounds like *good sense*
I think it was very appropriate of her to elect NOT to attend a fundraiser If she does not want to raise funds. She may have done this *to snub Bush*, but she more likely is just staying politically agnostic.

Doesn't sound like a SNUB. A snub would be a 'hell no' or 'Bush sucks'.

96. Jessica Simpson, a 'huge' fan of President Bush…
passes on GOP fundraiser

WASHINGTON – Jesssica Simpson loves President Bush. She's just not a big fan of Republican fundraisers.

The Hollywood starlet and tabloid cover girl was on Capitol Hill Thursday to lobby Congress for Operation Smile, an organization that provides reconstructive surgery to children with facial deformities. But all anyone wanted to know was why she turned down an invitation to attend a Republican fundraiser with Washington's top star – Bush.

“We went back and forth and we could never get the details worked out,” said her father and manager Joe Simpson. “When it became obvious that it was not just a state dinner, it was more of a fundraising event, that is the wrong purpose of why we are here.”

Still, he said of the president, “We are huge fans of him and of his family, his girls. Jessica loves the heck out of him.”

98. I'll always fondly remember the time ...
... when I thought that maybe I'd been too harsh in my judgment of Jessica Simpson, when I thought that maybe she had a modicum of integrity, maybe even a brain in her head.

Yeah, I'll ALWAYS remember that time - all eight hours of it, before the 'clarification' press release was launched.

109. Simpson says snub story not true: IMDB
http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/#1

Simpson says the story isn't true; he ran out of time to talk to her. Still wants to meet with him; "we have lots ff Texas stuff to talk about." Ewwww.

Simpson Blasts Bush Snub Story

Jessica Simpson has fired back at press reports she snubbed a meeting with President George W. Bush, insisting he ran out of time to sit down with her.

Simpson insists she is not among the celebrities who are keen to attack the US President - and she's still hoping the pair can reschedule their meeting. Simpson was set to meet the leader Friday, during the pop star's visit to Capitol Hill in Washington DC, where she'll address congressmen about charity organization Operation Smile.

She says, "I'm just so excited because the President asked for a special meeting. We're going to sit down face to face and we're going to talk about children. I want to set up this whole orphanage and adoption organization. I just really want to bring awareness to interracial adoption."

The pop star, who performed at Bush's inauguration and has been to The White House four times, admits she's a big fan of Bush: "He's a very personable guy, he's a Texas guy. His ranch is four doors down from my aunt and uncle's ranch. We have lots of Texas stuff to talk about."
