TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris plans to spend $10 million of her father's inheritance in her race to unseat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, she announced Wednesday night.

She ended speculation that she would quit the race on Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes." Rumors swirled that she would get out of the race after her name was associated with a defense contractor who bribed another congressman.

"I'm staying. I'm in this race. I'm going to win," she told Sean Hannity. "I'm going to put everything on the line."

Even if she spends millions on the race, though, it will be difficult for her to catch up to Nelson. A University of North Florida poll released hours before her television appearance shows Harris 20 points behind, 48-28. The statewide poll of 591 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

The "betting the farm" move is like something out of a TV movie, especially with her being the underdog. I found myself becoming interested in how this sad irrestible-force-immovable-object story would turn out. Good grief, I even signed up to get her campaign e-mails, at least for as long as she has a campaign.
