'Choose Life' Plates Allowed in Tenn.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A federal appeals court Friday allowed Tennessee to offer anti-abortion license plates bearing the message "Choose Life."

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati overturned a lower-court ruling that said the tag illegally promoted only one side of the abortion debate.

"Although this exercise of government one-sidedness with respect to a very contentious political issue may be ill-advised, we are unable to conclude that the Tennessee statute contravenes the First Amendment," Judge John M. Rogers said in a 2-1 ruling.
.....
Drivers will be able to pay an extra fee in Tennessee for the "Choose Life" plate, and some of the proceeds will go to New Life Resources, an anti-abortion group.

Tennessee is the 13th state to offer "Choose Life" plates. The others are Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota. Most states donate proceeds to adoption groups, but Alabama, Hawaii, Maryland and Montana donate at least some of the money to anti-abortion groups.

12. that's what i use them for! they're all over florida
they make me long to be back in new jersey again, really. on the other hand, there are not many bush stickers around here. either they've given up on him, or they're ashamed to support him (which i doubt - shame doesn't seem to be in their make up)

i saw a great bumper sticker the other day -- "pro-life femnist." the mind boggles

2. In Michigan
someone got a license plate saying "4RU486" and the Secretary of State revoked it, yet someone with "Pro-Life" got to keep his/her plate. The Secretary of State was Candace Miller, who is now a Republican Congresswoman.

5. No but you are now Anti Death Penalty!!
Seriously, if you :choose life" doesn't that mean you are against the death penalty? But most important about this license plate is "Choose", a choice. Of course if you had a Choose Death plate maybe you could get away with killing someone?

20. Ha ha. I agree with you, in a TWISTED sort of way...
I spoke with a woman at the grocery store getting putting
groceries in her car. I pointed to her "Choose Life"
bumper sticker and said "I like your sticker".

She was pleased until I added "I especially like the "choose" part".

Down slammed the lid!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I have a bumper sticker which reads: VOTE DEMOCRATIC -- THE JOB YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN

I'm sure it pisses off a sizable segment of the population.

10. "choosing" starts with having a choice
no choice? can't choose. not possible.

so, one could rightfully say that those with "choose life" tags support women having a choice

well, unless they fail to see the meaning of their words, that is

I'm betting they fail to see the meaning of "choose"

"You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

11. I'm anti-choice
That is, I'm against being able to choose political license plates. I live in Tennessee and would NOT be happy with pro-choice license plates alongside the anti-choice plates. I don't care about apolitical plates that raise funds for nonprofits like universities, the humane society, etc. But I think it's fairly easy to draw a line here and say that political statements on license plates are not a good idea whether the statement is liberal OR conservative.

15. Didn't Wham! wear T-shirts with this slogan in the "Wake Me Up...
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 04:38 AM by Frank Cannon
Before You Go-Go" video? Way back in, what, 1984?

I can't find a clip, but I wiki'ed it and sure enough, they did. Maybe there are a lot of George Michael fans in Tennessee.

I remember watching that video a long time ago and wondering what in the hell that T-shirt was all about. Even then it was anti-abortion slogan.

that I need to recycle or dispose of (I've got a big box of them): I'm going to keep them in my vehicle and hang one on the antenna of any vehicle with an anti-choice or anti-abortion plate or sticker.
