Cheney: Iraq Not in Midst of Civil War
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 11:09 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday that Iraq is not in the midst of a civil war, but instead described the violence as a desperate tactic by terrorists in the country to stop the move to democracy.

''What we've seen is a serious effort by them to foment a civil war,'' Cheney said in an interview on ''Face the Nation'' on CBS on the third anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. ''But I don't think they've been successful.''

Cheney said he disagrees with Iraq's former interim prime minister, Ayad Allawi, who said in an interview Sunday that the increasing attacks across his country can only be described as a civil war.

41. I'm a army veteran and I predicted this on another military blog...
and I apologize to you(saigon68) for overreacting a couple months ago. The others on this blog split off called me "unpatriotic" and "anti-american" and started their own blog and are starting to come back. That fricken hurts... It sometimes sucks to be a vet. I can only imagine what it was like in '68.

16. No, he just realizes how stupid republican voters are.
Plus he knows the corporate whore media is on his side.

Cheney and his corrupt cabal will continue to rob our country right up to the last minute.

Cheney will say everything is rosy in Iraq because Halliburton, etc., are raking in billions of taxpayer dollars.

Plus, controlling Iraqi oil means bigger profits for the oil companies.

Cheney is hardly delusional. He will be living like a king for the rest of his miserable life.

Cheney: Iraq not in civil war, predicts success

Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:49 PM ET10

By Tabassum Zakaria

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday said Iraq had not fallen into civil war despite extremist attempts to foment one, and warned that allowing the insurgents to succeed would leave the country a failed state.

Three years after the U.S. invasion, bombings, killings and kidnappings continue the unabated violence in Iraq. Former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said on BBC television that Iraq was nearing the "point of no return" and had already plunged into sectarian civil war.

Cheney said "terrorists" like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, and others were trying to stop the formation of a democratically elected government in Iraq by violence such as the bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra on February 22, one of the holiest Shi'ite sites.

"What we've seen is a serious effort by them to foment civil war, but I don't think they've been successful," Cheney said on CBS television's "Face the Nation." Increasing public discontent over the Iraq war in which more than 2,300 American troops have died has helped push President George W. Bush's approval ratings to the lowest of his presidency.

29. Think of the times
Dick has made a statement with "I believe" "I think" "If you will." "Greeted as liberators" comes to mind immediately but there are many statements that Dick seems to pull from his ass only to state them as though they are AP bulletins or the word of God - take your pick. "I think" is just that - I think, I don't KNOW.
Why is this treated as though it has any validity when he has been so monumentally wrong on so many occasions? Unless he's holding a document signed by God that says he's on the money we should all ignore everything that comes from his crooked slash of a mouth.

30. All you need to know about Dick......

http://www.tvnewslies.org/html/kept_promises.html

Well if anyone should know about desperate tactics taken to stop democracy........However, in the reality that most of the world lives in, what's occurring in Iraq right now can ONLY be described as a civil war.....The very reason the Brighter Bush beat a hasty retreat from Baghdad oh so many years ago.

Thank God the insurgency is in its last throes. Yup, we should be out of there in 10 or 12 years......Now if all American's will just pony up $10,000, why we'll get this little misunderstanding paid for and off the books.

36. No VP in American History has been Impeached.
History must be made by Impeaching Cheney.

He will be easier to Impeach than the Sock Puppet because only 18% of Americans still support this criminal.

Vice President Cheney must be Impeached First

One of the main reasons the Bush Regime went to a war in Iraq, was because the Democratic Party was neutralized, by the belief that Cheney had the evidence, that Iraq was getting nuclear weapons. Cheney knew there were no such nuclear weapons. Cheney knew the story about Niger 'yellow cake' going to Iraq was a fraud. And yet he pushed that argument, in order to convince the Congress to to allow the war to go ahead."

Yet, now that (WMDs) in Iraq to be a fraud, those Democrats who are upset are not targetting Cheney, but going after President Bush instead. .

The immediate basis for the impeachment of VP Cheney is the obstruction of justice and coverup carried out by Cheney in the case of the leak of Valerie Plame and exposing and destroying the covert operation of Brewster Jennings, which V. Plame was in charge of. Dick Cheney, acted to cover up and obstruct justice in the search to unearth and prosecute the guilty parties.

The Plame case is not the only example of misconduct by Cheney that requires the Congress impeach him. Cheney has committed a fraud against the nation with his lies on Iraq, and also demonstrated blatant corruption in permitting the multi-billion-dollar ripoffs by his former company Halliburton. The evidence is overwhelming.

Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

43. Iraqi women have a different perspective
From Democracy Now!'s interview with two of the Iraqi women who came to the US earlier this month to talk about what's really happening over there:

AMY GOODMAN: We continue with our guests today. We are joined by Faiza Al-Araji, who is a civil engineer, who has just flown in from Amman, lived in Iraq until this past summer when her son was kidnapped. We are also joined by Eman Ahmad Khamas, who is a journalist, translator and activist, a member of the Women’s Will organization. We welcome you both. I asked you during the break, Faiza, are you Sunni or Shia?

FAIZA AL-ARAJI: I don't like this question. I'm Iraqi. And I'm insisting I am Iraqi. I don't want to use these new titles, have been entered Iraq after Bremer. When he entered Iraq he put this division for the Iraqi people. And we refuse it.

AMY GOODMAN: What do you mean it’s just been introduced? I mean, there is a sense in the media in this country that this is age-old sectarian, almost tribal hatred.

FAIZA AL-ARAJI: Oh, my God. Yeah, they are trying to tell you another story. The reality is there. We are brothers and sisters. We are Muslim, my dear. This is the identity of the nation. We are Muslim. But they are trying to divide the people, to go to the sub-identity, to make a cause of fighting or to provoke the people against each other. And we refuse it.

AMY GOODMAN: Eman?

EMAN AHMAD KHAMAS: Well, the reality is that it never happened in the history of Iraq for thousands, six thousands of years. It never happened, a civil war or these kind of distinctions. It is true that there are in Iraq, there are Kurds, there are Arabs and Sunnis and Shia and the Christians and many other minor religions and groups. But it never happened that we fight each other. No. At all.

FAIZA AL-ARAJI: And a thing I said yesterday, in the history there is fighting between the regime and the Kurds or the regime against the Shia. But it doesn't mean it is civil war. It is something between, you know, for political reasons. But the media here is investing these actions to tell you another kind of stories.
