Guantanamo film 'gets US release' (BBC News)
(I wonder if this will get wide release? I bet the major Corporate Theater Chains will decline to run it, hopefully some independents will show it.)

Guantanamo film 'gets US release'

The film was shot in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran

A US film distributor has signed a deal to release The Road to Guantanamo, about three British Muslims held at the detention camp, in the US and Canada.

Roadside Attractions will distribute the film by British director Michael Winterbottom, said Screen Daily. Co-president Howard Cohen said the movie would leave viewers "thinking about Guantanamo in a new way".

The film got 1.6m viewers when Channel 4 showed it as part of a simultaneous cinema, DVD and download March release. The movie won a Silver Bear award at Berlin Film Festival last month.

Cohen said: "We think this film is a visceral punch to the gut that will leave everyone thinking about Guantanamo in a new way. "It plays like a thriller, but it also shows the real-life struggle of nations to balance fighting terrorism with preserving human rights."

2. Do you know if this
is the same film mentioned yesterday on C-Span during a live teleconference with former Guantanamo detainees? In answer to a question, one former detainee said, "Watch the movie."

3. Probably
It has interviews with the 3 detainees, but is mainly a reconstruction with actors playing them when they were imprisoned. These 3 were friends before they went to Pakistan, and are telling their story together, so if you saw something with 3 British ex-detainees, it's almost certainly them.

6. I've seen two of the directors' films; they are all great
Michael Winterbottom delved a little bit into the war on terror with "In This World"; this movie should be excellent.
