Reid criticizes President Bush as 'dangerously incompetent'
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid called President Bush "dangerously incompetent" on Wednesday and said the administration ought to be doing more to prevent increasing sectarian violence in Iraq.

"Where is (Secretary of State) Condoleeza Rice? Why isn't she over in the Middle East, as the chief diplomat of this country should be, trying to get the political forces to form a government over there?" Reid told The Associated Press.

Reid said the U.S. was "failing three different ways in Iraq." Military efforts have lagged, the economy is crippled by decreased oil and electricity production, and attempts to form a representative government are behind schedule, he said.

...

"Why isn't he spending time with these leaders in the Middle East trying to get this government formed?" Reid said.
Reid described the conditions Iraq as "low-grade civil war."

1. So how is this not LESS useful than calling for censure?
Frankly, this is just blue verbage. It's about as helpful as a bicycle is for a drowning man.

4. Do you think calling for censure is more than verbiage?
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 04:16 PM by simskl
The repukes in congress and the senate would vote anything like that down immediately and then yap on and on about how a nice "free vote" in congress or the senate vindicated the glorious leader of what used to be the free world.

I think the censure and impeachment votes should come sometime next February, when we win back the house AND senate.

Typo's fixed on edit

8. At least it's a call to do something actionable.
This is talk leading nowhere. It's so old and worn it isn't even noteworthy and thuse even lacks function as a dose of Dr. Feelgood.

9. Doesn't sound worn to me. Sounds like things are ramping up.
A year ago there would have been outraged Repub calls for Reid to apologize. Dark hints of treason. Now this stuff is gaining traction. It's like Murtha had to suffer the slings and arrows a few months ago, now everyone is talking about how to get out of Iraq. The buzz is not only allowed now, it's getting louder. It's all part of the same picture, just different texture. Good on Reid!

12. I agree.
At our house, we were talking about your point exactly this morning.

Where the 'pubs can scream about censure and maintain traction, they cannot argue Reid's points at all.

With what points are they going to rebut?

"The President is NOT INCOMPETENT"

"The Secretary does not need to spend any more time on Middle Eastern affairs"

I don't think so.

29. And censure does what exactly?
Why does EVERYTHING have to revolve around censure? There are several things we can do do fight - censure is ONE of them.

2. Maybe condi is catching a play...
or shopping for shoes? :sarcasm:

But seriously, yes, if we take him at face value that he doesn't know what he should know as CiC, then that's dangerous incompetence.

3. Absolutely.
As much a I think iraq is a hopeless case, Bush supposedly believes in it. Why isn't he in a war room with military and foreign policy experts trying to come up with a resolution to the violence and the obvious deterioration of the situation? How in the hell can any responsible, competent leader take a month vacation to go riding his bicycle around his ranch while American soldiers and iraqi civilians are slaughtered in the chaotic situation that he created?

5. There are two differing opinions here;
The first is what the Senator has brought up. The second being that the prez and the people who really run the country know exactly what they are doing and have known for the last 10 years. Frankly, I'm not sure which gives me worse headaches!

6. Reid makes an interesting point vis-a-vis C*ndi--
It does seem that she is more interested in the token visit of a day or two, typically with a photo-op speech than in the in-depth work to forge alliances and agreements. She appears to be interested in racking up the numbers on her list of Countries I Have Visited.

28. "Incompetent"...it's the new "Corrupt"
I thought it was amusing that as soon as the poll with the top-rated words used to describe Bush came out, Dems immediately grabbed on to "Incompetent" and "Culture of Corruption" got dropped like it was hot...

23. Why isn't he? Because he's busy campaigning, which he's competent at
apparently. Odd he's doing that, too, since he claims to pay no attention to the polls.

24. Give 'em h*ck, Harry!
Reid is pushing a technocratic complaint--competence--but doing nothing to challenge the illegitimacy of the Iraq occupation. That's because he and his machine support it. Reid's message is like Kerry's: we Democrats will fight the war better!

Nope. The war's lost, and Americans know it. Can we get a new set of party leaders who understand that, too?

And into the "unquestionably incompetent" area.
