General: War on terror will last for years

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - The war on terror will continue long after Iraq and Afghanistan are stable, Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, told military officials from around the world Friday.
Speaking at the Global Terrorism and International Cooperation Symposium, Pace called for patience and collaboration, repeating U.S. assertions that it will be a long campaign.

"Iraq and Afghanistan will over time become stable," he said in a keynote address. "But the war on terror will continue long after Iraq and Afghanistan have had success in standing up their own governments."

...

"We are talking about years and years to come of vigilance," said Pace, "Today's tactical victory does not guarantee tomorrow's strategic success."

2. This is true
"General: War on terror will last for years"

True, even if Bush were replaced with David Kucinich tomorrow, and he withdrew our troops the next day from Iraq and Afghanistan immediately.

7. You Fight Terror With Security: Economic, Political, Legal
To defeat a terorist, you create and maintain a better world, where families thrive, children grow, and business produces products, not paper profits. You allow people to build their own worlds--you DON'T bomb everything to hell!

Sigh. What a dummy. When all you've got is a hammer (and no creativity or guts or honesty) then everything looks like a nail.

8. Translation: "We are gonna keep screwing up until America is finished as
a country."

Because what else will stop them? No matter how badly they screw things up they are not finished. They must screw things up more. They won't stop until there are no more resources to commit to their misguided efforts.

9. These goddamned generals act like they are running the goddamn country
They get to do all the messaging and media appearances. They and the CIA spooks and kooks are influential and set the messages and direction the politicians and the populace follow. they go make deals with countries and determine who our alliances will be, like the corrupt S. Vietnamese government two generations ago. Hoo rah!

10. Pace is nothing but a GOP hack, unfit to lead soldiers
America has been privileged to have had many great leaders as generals in our armed forces: Grant, Patton, Marshall, Bradley - the list goes on and on. Pace isn't fit to lick the mud off any of those men's boots.
