Afghan president intervenes in case of Christian convert

KABUL (AFP) - President Hamid Karzai has personally intervened in the case of an Afghan man facing execution for converting to Christianity, a top official has said, amid fierce criticism in the West.

Karzai was consulting with various government organisations to resolve the matter as soon as possible, the senior government official said on condition of anonymity.

"The president is personally working to resolve it peacefully. There is a way out of it," he said. "I believe it'll take one or two days."

Another senior official said late Friday that the convert, 41-year-old Abdul Rahman, was likely to be released from jail soon. He said the matter would be discussed at a top-level meeting Saturday.

you should be questioning Pashtun leaders......on Pashtunwali....demanding they respect Pashtunwali if they are actually "Pashtun"....as it demands you respect the individual, stranger, foreigner and guest....

Islam, however you look at it, like Christianity....does not.

This man has attacked no one, he is not Pashtun to begin with, and there is little reason why he should not be let free.

If they do not follow Pashtunwali, they are not Pashtun...and that will give them even bigger problems than if they had converted to Christianity....

The next time that clown Bush gets up and spouts about the "progress" we're making, he'd better not include Afghanistan. **Bush has, in the past, used this country as a "young democracy", a "emerging free country" and all the bragging rights that go with it (never mind the fact that it's an ancient country but whatever).

Let's see that fool mention AFGHANISTAN. I bet he won't.
