CNN: Form letters tell 9/11 families of 911 calls
Form letters tell 9/11 families of 911 calls
One recipient calls letters 'totally crass'
Sunday, March 26, 2006

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The mayor's office is sending form letters this weekend to the families of 24 victims of the 9/11 attacks, informing them of unreleased recordings of 911 calls made by their loved ones.

At least one recipient called the letters "totally crass."

"I had one family member call me today, she was hysterical. She actually fainted," said Bill Doyle, whose son died after two planes crashed into the WTC towers. "She opened it up in an elevator and she couldn't believe it, because she never heard from her husband that morning, but apparently he called 911."

Doyle called the letters notifying families this week "totally crass" and shocking to families.

He sent an e-mail to victims' families Saturday.

"We are sending this e-mail to you because we do not want you to be blindsided by the information, and we want you to be able to choose where and when you read the information and with whom," Doyle's e-mail to families said....

1. Crass and so much more. Very sad and puzzling that they'd
pass info this way, especially 'last words'.

3. I see no reason...
That these should be made public, for dissemination by the media. For historans and researchers? Yes. But do they really need to be blasted across the world? I think not.

5. People are forgetting about 9-11.
They must be reminded.
What better way than cries to emotionalsm?

"At long last, sir, have you no shred of memory of the events of 9-11?"

14. Any form of censorship is bad
to many people "protect the children!", "think of the families!", "we were attacked on 9/11!" sounds like a good argument for censorship but any form is bad because just helps the government hide and conceal the truth.

4. Sounds like they were about to be leaked. 9-11 is about to burst folks.
If they're mad about that, wait till they come to the realization their government DID 9-11 to jumpstart PNAC.

7. That few families should have gotten personal visits or at least a call...
...from an official of some sort.

Jerks.

8. I wonder when they'll get around to explaining the locked roof exits
and why the FDNY was denied permission to conduct helicopter rescues like they did in '93?

10. I don't get it...
The mayor's office is basically telling some people that the media has recordings of their love ones and we want to tell you about the fact the media might be broadcasting this...

The story doesn't really note where the outrage is directed...they probably shouldn't send an e-mail, but then again, if CNN (the authors of this story) are in possession of such recordings (for no real purpose but sensationalism), shouldn't the victims families be told?

I can see why CNN might want to slant the story to make it seem like politicians are to blame--when in fact the politicians are taking steps to protect the families from a immoral predatory media, no?

16. Still don't get it...
Why would that matter...it's the Mayor sending out the Letters to victims' families and it's some guy called Bill Doyle sending out emails and calling it 'crass'?

Sorry, not seeing the problem here...

17. The form letters are a CYA maneuver.
And why did they sit on their family member's last words for four and half years to begin with?

"Crass" is putting it kindly.

11. Hey everybody! Remember 9/11?
This must be the unveiling of the BushCo Media "Spring Fear Collection" of stories. Just think bright sunlit days in a green, flowery meadow and then BLAMMO! You are not safe! Run for your lives! They're gonna get ya! You wanna listen how other people thought they were safe on that sunny day 9/11? Fear. Be Afraid!!!

13. These families should have been told YEARS ago
that these calls existed. Why NOW? I cannot believe that they were just recently "discovered".

I agree more government controlled media and more 9/11 propaganda to rally up support when a new war is on the horizon.

15. Good point -- but it will backfire. Badly.
Not only is it crass, but it will raise more questions than it will answer -- far more.

9/11 is the most explosive undetonated bomb in American history. I have no trust in any of the prevailing conspiracy theories, but when the truth emerges, it is likely to be every bit as crazy, corrupt, and inflammatory as the most extreme of the theories.

Team Bush is entering the "just don't care" phase. Their mission has been largely accomplished with the transfer of over five trillion dollars into the protected accounts of their friends around the world, and a guarantee for trillions more during what will certainly be a traumatic economic upheaval accompanying the realization that energy will soon cost ten to twenty times as much as it has historically.

In other words, they got theirs. With no sense of history, humanity, or fear of prosecution, they don't care.
