Bayh: Democrats must be firm on national security debate

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh told a group of Democrats on Sunday that Democrats have to take on the national security debate with confidence.

"Our message to the American people is we can be both tough and smart, good stewards of our nation's security, better stewards of our domestic policy," Bayh said during a fundraising event in Manchester for state Senate candidate Betsi DeVries. "You don't have to choose one or the other. You can have both."

It was the third trip to the state since July for Bayh, who is exploring a possible run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

He attended several events on Sunday, including a meeting of Young Democrats in Portsmouth during which he said that the party needs to reach out to voters of all parties and persuade them of the party's strengths on national security.

2. Bayh is Indiana's OTHER Republican Senator
His entire life has been spent calculating and positioning himself to be Prez. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is as important to him than being President.

3. Since when does 'firm' equal 'caving to the opposition'?
He keep using that word. I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

11. Fine, but supporting the Iraq war is not a litmus test for that
The notion that we have to support this quagmire to be seen as tough guys on national security is absurd.

13. The best way to support national security is by withdrawing from Iraq
and salvage what's left of the military.

15. Firm? How about verbally shredding the gang of incompetents...
... who've so completely BUNGLED the war on terrorism... by creating more terrorosts than ever before? By getting the US military bogged down in an urban guerilla conflict with no exit strategy? By bankrupting the US government to steer billions of taxpayer dollars into the hands of political cronies?

Firm? Shut the fuck up with "firm" already. Kick ass, take names, and refuse to back down when the inevitable republican whining and sniveling begins.

:grr:

18. Bayh is a past chairman of the DLC
Democrats should take any advice he has for them about as seriously as they take advice from Ken Mehlman.
