Consumer Confidence Highest Since 2002
NEW YORK - Americans' optimism in the economy rebounded in March, sending a widely followed barometer of consumer sentiment to a near four-year high, a private research group said Tuesday.

The Conference Board said that its consumer index shot up 4.5 points to 107.2, the highest level since May 2002, when the reading was 110.3. Analysts had expected a reading of 102.

3. I always wonder exactly what they measure
I, for instance, am confident I can afford cheap crap made in China. I'm not at all confident I'll be able to afford to retire.

2. Highest since May, 2002?
Just eight months after the WTC attacks? We were in the toilet then, and those numbers show just how bad things have been...it just got worse and worse and worse, and just now it is back UP to that level? Holy shit! Next they'll be telling us that unemployment is down to 4.5%. Among Bush's top 1%, I guess...that figure represents the number of their hired help that got fired in the previous month.

8. Guessing that this will stall as the reality of spiking gas costs
hit more and more pocket books.

Locally it was 2.45 on Saturday, and it is 2.59 on Tuesday - a rate of increase of 5 cents a day.

9. Who believes this shit?
Certainly not those millions who are making less, adjusted for inflation, than they were in 2002.

11. I Do!
I also believe that, once everyone has burned up their income tax return money, the number will drop like a rock.
