Pamela Anderson asks Harper to meet about seal hunt after she hosts Junos
By The Canadian Press

Actress Pamela Anderson, who is hosting the Junos in Halifax, wants to talk about the seal hunt to PM Stephen Harper

(AP)

TORONTO (CP) — Calling the seal hunt “barbaric,” bombshell actress Pamela Anderson has asked for a meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper following her hosting duties at Sunday’s Juno Awards in Halifax.

“As a proud Canadian who frequently travels abroad, I am alarmed that people are starting to see Canada as a country more beholden to a pack of greedy hunters and to the seal-skin ‘fashion’ whims of a few countries than to the massive international outcry against the hunt,” Anderson, a vocal member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said in a letter faxed to Harper’s office.

“One of the biggest problems facing the U.S. government is appearing aloof about its own hostile behaviour; I’d hate to see that happen north of the border too.”

30. You mean 90's not 70's.
Brigitte Bardot is probably 90, if she was 18 in this picture (1934). I doubt I'll be alive at that age.

51. Yes.
I thought it was the photo date. Usually when you put a date next to a photo, that's when it was shot. Well in that case, she hasn't aged very well. But, I suppose that's pretty irrelevant to the issue at hand.

46. Here:
Also seems to be homophobic and sexist as well.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5181642

PARIS - French actress-turned-animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot was convicted Thursday of inciting racial hatred and ordered to pay $6,000 — the fourth such fine for the former sex symbol since 1997.

The Paris court sentenced Bardot, 69, for remarks in her book “A Scream in the Silence,” an outspoken attack on gays, immigrants and the jobless that shocked France last year.

In the book, she laments the “Islamization of France” and the “underground and dangerous infiltration of Islam.”

“Mme. Bardot presents Muslims as barbaric and cruel invaders, responsible for terrorist acts and eager to dominate the French to the extent of wanting to exterminate them,” the court said.

France’s 5-million-member Muslim community is the largest in Europe.

Bardot, who was not present for the verdict, denied the charges in a tearful court appearance last month, saying her book did not target Islam or people from North Africa.

She told the court France was going through a period of decadence and said she opposed interracial marriage.

“I was born in 1934, at that time interracial marriage wasn’t approved of,” she said.

“There are many new languages in the new Europe. Mediocrity is taking over from beauty and splendor. There are many people who are filthy, badly dressed and badly shaven.”

In her book, she also attacks homosexuals as “fairground freaks,” condemns the presence of women in government and denounces the “scandal of unemployment benefits.”

Bardot, who in her 1960s heyday was the epitome of French feminine beauty, was fined $3,250 in January 1998 after being convicted of inciting racial hatred in comments about civilian massacres in Algeria.

Four months earlier, a court fined her for saying France was being overrun by sheep-slaughtering Muslims.

50. I was not aware of that circumstance in BB's life.
And there is nothing uglier than bigotry. Consciousness has come a long way since the 1940s and 50s.
However for her to have racially slurred instances since 1997 is a travesty.

Her campaigns to help the animals and her tireless efforts in that area have been admirable; it is despicable that she harbors hatred for humans.

I did not know that about her.

I stand corrected .....I cannot admire a bigot....

you can be a nice lady and be an idiot, and i'm afraid andersen is exhibit A to my view

as far as the seal hunt, i will leave the decision on that to canadian fish & wildlife services, just as i would expect them to leave decisions abt hunting of our animals to usa fish & wildlife services, i have not seen anything to cause me to have a lack of confidence in the ability of canada's wildlife officials to rule on whether or not a hunt is proper

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 08:20 PM by pitohui
these are good people doing a hard job for too little pay

if you want to put someone famous for having big tits -- big tits which she BOUGHT in a freaking store -- ahead of somebody who devotes years of their lives to getting a master's or doctorate to study the health of animal populations and then gets a job for around $16K and all for the love of the animals and the environment -- if you want to put such people lower down on your hierarchy of who to trust and believe than an empty-headed celebrity than i can't help you

good fish and wildlife people know what in hell they're doing and if you can't judge them to decide if a hunt can be sustained, you sure the fuck can't trust paul effing over-the-hill mccartney, we all saw what a wonderful long life a vegan diet did for his damn wife, so he just keeps on repeating what didn't work the first time, i feel sorry for him but i don't respect his views in this matter

and i sure the hell don't respect anderson's

48. Seal guts were hurled into a boat carrying mostly journalists
Seal-hunt activists complain police abusing rights

CHRIS MORRIS

Canadian Press

snip I forgot to include a link yesterday.

Ms. Aldworth insisted that she did not come too close to a sealing operation.

She said a sealing boat maneuvered close to the observers' small boat, forcing them within the 10-metre buffer zone.

The sealing boat was carrying RCMP and Fisheries officers.

Reporters covering the hunt from the ice floes confirmed that several sealing boats charged observer vessels.

On Saturday, seal guts were hurled into a boat carrying mostly journalists.

On Sunday, a sealing boat rammed one of the protesters' inflatable Zodiacs, damaging a propeller.

Besides, dipshit Harper will have more to deal with next month when the "hunt" seeks close to 300,000 seal pups.

My point was that he won't meet with her, because despite her (DU suggested) "shortcomings" she is still far beyond what the Minister of Fisheries could ever summon.

And that...has got to hurt.
