Albright says Republicans wanted war with Iraq in '98
Republicans urged the Clinton administration to invade Iraq as early as eight years ago, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Monday at a political fundraiser.

"I remember when we were in office, starting in 1998, various Republicans were coming to us wanting a ground invasion," Albright said.

She did not name the people she said made those requests nor say what prompted them. But 1998 was when the Iraqi government defied a United Nations-imposed "no-fly" zone and began firing on planes attempting to enforce it.

Albright spoke briefly to reporters outside a fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bob Casey that his campaign said was expected to raise $100,000.

17. Don't forget Joe Lieberman's been begging for war since 1991!
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 12:46 AM by WhoWantsToBeOccupied
He's still bragging about it on his own website (http://lieberman.senate.gov/issues/security.cfm): "Disarming Iraq. Long before President Bush came into office, Senator Lieberman was making a compelling case for removing the threat posed by Iraq under Saddam Hussein. Senator Lieberman served as lead Democratic cosponsor of the 1991 Gulf War Resolution. In 1998, he teamed up with Senator John McCain (R-AZ) to enact the Iraq Liberation Act, which stated that regime change in Iraq was U.S. policy. And in the fall of 2002, Senator Lieberman was a lead sponsor of a resolution authorizing the President to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam."

7. What amazes me about PNAC ...
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 07:05 PM by OKIsItJustMe
... is that they're right there, "hiding in plain sight."

Their whole agenda is there on display; and yet everyone I mention them to seems to be totally ignorant of their existence.

8. Helen Thomas brought up the PNAC in her interview on CNN the other day.
I think it's the first time I heard "PNAC" mentioned on the "liberal" media.

15. I was astounded
I always knew about PNAC, generally speaking, but I could not believe that all there crazy warmongering stuff was still on there site until I actually took the time to visit it a week or so ago. I sat stunned, for hours reading some of the most damming evidence against these nuts. As was said, hiding in plain sight for no one that has any authority to see or acknowledge.

I tell every person that is unfortunate enough to have a political conversation with me though.

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 08:05 PM by LynnTheDem
NEVER.

The UN did NOT approve or impose those no-fly zones; the US & UK did -ILLEGALLY- and unilaterally.

HELLO MEDIA DO YOUR FUCKING JOB PLEASE!!! That includes getting your facts straight!

12. Thank you Lynn -- The no-fly zones let them bomb targets in Iraq
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 08:20 PM by IndyOp
on a nearly weekly basis for 5 years before the bombs 'started' dropping in March 2003.

And, by the way, in the past 15 years -- Persian Gulf War & it's aftermath, Sanctions, Gulf War --
Real Shock & Awe. At least 1,000,000 Iraqis dead as a result of war & sanctions
