The head of the Environmental Protection Agency was the featured guest at an intimate Denver fundraiser attended by representatives of industries regulated by his agency.
EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson came to Denver 2 1/2 weeks ago to help raise money for 7th Congressional District candidate Rick O'Donnell. The Republican's campaign has declined to release any details of the event, including who was there or how much they donated.
The EPA on Tuesday, in response to a public-records request, disclosed the 10 people who attended the fundraiser at the Greenberg Traurig law firm. The guests included representatives from El Paso Natural Gas, the Colorado Mining Association and the Colorado Petroleum Association. El Paso and member companies of the two associations have activities that come under federal environmental regulations.
Additionally, the attorney at the law firm who hosted the event, Doug Benevento, is the former head of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Now he "assists clients with environmental, health and natural resource issues in the private sector and before local, state, and federal government agencies," according to his firm's biography.
