Americans at "tipping point" about energy-poll

WASHINGTON - Americans are nearly as worried about their country‘s dependence on foreign energy sources as they are about the war in Iraq , a poll released by the magazine Foreign Affairs showed on Thursday.

Almost half of the 1,000 Americans surveyed for the Public Agenda Confidence in U.S. Foreign Policy Index gave U.S. policymakers a failing grade in weaning the country from foreign oil.

Nearly 90 percent said the lack of energy independence jeopardizes national security.

Public Agenda, a nonpartisan group, conducted the poll in early January with funding from the Ford Foundation. It said that Americans are at a "tipping point" on energy, akin to their state of mind about the war.

1. This is very good news.
Perhaps the Amrican people are not as unaware as we had feared. Have the cons awoken the sleeping giant?

2. It's their energy bills that are waking them up.
Now that gasoline, oil, natural gas and electric power have all skyrocketed in cost, people are starting to freak out.

People vote their pocketbooks.

4. Yes, unfortunately.
I just hope we work on the demand side of the energy equation like increasing fuel efficiency of cars, getting rid of tax credits for SUVs, while exploring alternative, renewable energy sources. I don't want this to mean the end of ANWR, but that's the direction that it's headed.

5. The question is; do most see the answers in renewable energy
development, or just drilling in ANWR?

6. The GOP will seize on this and propose bogus "Green" policies that are
really bandaids and bullshit while the Democrats will end up behind the curve again.

7. "US policymakers"... code name for the exxon pResident and his texas
white-boy petroleum mafia cohorts. They want us dependent on the saudis, they are owned by the saudis. Think what 1 to 2 TRILLION dollars would have done to limit our dependence on foreign energy sources. Why the hell are we spending our children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's futures to enrich exxon and protect their "vital interests?" And it all started with the B movie actor ray-gun, recruited to play the West Wing in real life. The same CRIMINALS that ran his administration are back again running dumbya's.
