Treasury secretary says ports deal a PR, not security, problem

ASHEVILLE - Treasury Secretary John Snow says the recent controversy over a proposal by a Middle Eastern company to take over significant operations at six American ports represents a failure to communicate to the public and Congress, not a flawed decision.

In an interview this morning at the Citizen-Times, Snow said it is “my responsibility in the Tresasury Department … to make sure that the communications side is dealt with.”

However, “Any examination will confirm that the ports deal presented no security risk,” Snow said.

Government officials involved in reviewing the proposed transaction - which fell apart when United Arab Emirates-based Dubai Ports World pulled out in the face of strong public and Congressional opposition - “didn’t look at it with the political eyeshades … they looked at it just substantively,” Snow said.

1. Every problem this administration has is treated as a PR problem.
It's getting old.

2. Well
maybe his Bushco buddies shouldn't have let 9/11 happen, whipped up the country into a frenzy of Islamophobia, then try and sell the ports to the very same boogeymen.

3. Doesn't he stand to make a bunch of money off the deal?
I can't remember what it was but he had something going on were he was involved which makes his opinion suspect.

6. Wasn't he a director of CSX
a company which was later bought by Dubai World Ports?

Something like that anyway, there were plenty of posts on DU about it during the port sell-off debacle.
