Dean says Bush 'scapegoating' Hispanics

Associated Press
OAKLAND, Calif. - Democratic Party chief Howard Dean accused President Bush and the Republican Party on Friday of exploiting the immigration issue for political gain by scapegoating Hispanics.

Dean and Bush agree on the legislation at the heart of the debate. Both support a Senate bill that would expand guest-worker programs for an estimated 400,000 immigrants each year.

However, at a speech in an Oakland union hall, the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate sought to tie Bush to a much tougher House bill that would tighten borders and make it a crime to be in the United States illegally or to offer aid to illegal immigrants. Bush does not back the House bill.

"This is a nonsensical proposal put out by far right-wingers in the Republican Party who have been endorsed for re-election by the president of the United States," Dean said. "The president has a moral obligation to rein in the right-wing extremists in his party and stop this divisive rhetoric about immigrants."

1. These remarks should be repeated far and wide.
As always, Dean is on top of this issue.

2. In 2004 it was gays. In 2006 it's Hispanics. In 2008 it will be Jews.

DeLay a star at 'War on Christians' conference
Participants told indicted politician is being persecuted

Dana Milbank, Washington Post

There are those who would say Tom DeLay lost his job as House majority leader because he was indicted by a Texas grand jury for money laundering and conspiracy, or because of his extensive ties to lawbreaking lobbyist Jack Abramoff. But they would be wrong.

In fact, the Texas Republican fell from power because he is a Christian.

That, at least, is the view of Rick Scarborough, convener of a conference this week called "The War on Christians."

"I believe the most damaging thing that Tom DeLay has done in his life is take his faith seriously into public office, which made him a target for all those who despise the cause of Christ," Scarborough said, introducing DeLay on Tuesday. When DeLay finished, the host reminded the politician: "God always does his best work right after a crucifixion." Republican fell from power because he is a Christian.

5. When Bush's war in Iran falls apart, they'll blame Israel...
they'll say, "Israel made us do it."

That's how they'll turn everyone against the Jews and against Israel.

7. It will never be Jews.
Too many of them are the corporate elite.

(I could care less which ethnicities are in the corporate elite. If they're trying to tell us to study by taking our jobs away via offshoring, it's not the right way to do it. It's destroying this country. Hell, none of them is being honest. Especially when we all know the wages the Indians and others get. It's about greed. Not kicking the overly-contented Americans in their collective arse.)

I see where Americans must improve. But the methods to go about change are not right; if nothing else for their deceptiveness. But it's more than just deception, from what is being seen and shown.

3. Woah. For the second time EVER, Chairman Dean and I are on the same page.
Go, Chairman Dean! If you could just do more of this, and less of your other shit, I would be so much happier about the changes you've made to the Party. Oh, wait, no I wouldn't. But at least I'd feel like you weren't fucking it up any worse. Seriously, I'm interested in giving credit where credit is due--NICE. JOB. DEAN.

which requires a LIVING WAGE be paid to legal ones. IMO, the border needs to be tightened. Duh. There isn't a hair's difference between the Repub and Democratic versions of these bills. Both are equally ineffective and pander to corprats who are at the crux of this issue, IMO. Both parties are way off on this and I can't support either one of them on this issue.

Flame on...

12. No flames here.
I'm so disappointed (yet somehow not surprised) that the dems are proposing a guest worker program. This has nothing to do with the question of what is to be done about the illegal immigrants already here, this is a program to legalize substandard wages in the future.

13. Exactly. They're pandering to the corprats as much as the Repubs...
...they don't deserve to be called Democrats when their proposed solutions to issues such as this one are only negligably different from the Republicans.

Aside from that, neither party has proposed a REAL solution to the problem - one that cracks at the root and that is corporate greed and unaccountability.
