Bush Offers Quake Assistance to Iran
WASHINGTON - Setting aside political differences, the United States offered Iran temporary shelter to house up to 100,000 earthquake victims, the State Department said Friday.

In addition to shelter, the offer includes blankets, plastic sheeting, hygienic goods and water units, Ereli said.

Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns telephoned Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said.

Burns told the ambassador the assistance could be delivered within 48 hours. The envoy promised a reply after conferring with his government.

12. That's so last year!
Besides, where's the political capital in helping people who probably won't vote for him anyway?

As a professed Christian, surely GWB has heard "Charity begins at home"? Helping others is all well and good, but we do have a large mess in this country that could be cleaned up first.

My cynical reaction: he's offering aid so he can either say 1) "See, we tried to be nice but they still wouldn't give up their nukes so let's get'em" or 2) "Our aid workers found a whole mess of WMDs over there in Eye-ran".

2. I'm sorry, I couldn't help it, I busted out laughing when I read the.....
....subject of this thread. I know that an earthquake is no joke:cry: but Bush offering "assist" Iran is hilarious. I'm sure Iranians are going to jump at the chance to have Bush and cohorts come in and take over in the name of quake relief.

Yes, Bush will send in all kind of help and those relief workers will be complete with guns, body armor, oil equipment and more.

6. Bush offered the help with such wording as the Iranian govt is unlikely
to accept it: something to the effect of "our disagreements are with the Iranian govt rather than the Iranian people" (look at the link in OP)

9. He screwed up his own people in NOLA and they are still suffering
but he is going to assist Iran?

The guy is simply nuts and ignorant.

Take care of your people, dear frat boy. You have NOT done that.

instead of declaring war, we offer humanitarian aid. That ought to kill a few thousand and tie up all their infrastructure for a few years. Not to mention that Cheney's biz buds will rake in millions in profits.

Too bad we don't have an icon for black humour, this will have to do :sarcasm: I would laugh if it wasn't so sad.

11. Curiouser and curiouser. I believe this is further evidence
that the WH is inhabited by a lunatic. I'm not opposed to aid, of course. It's a great idea. But does the idiot son actually believe that there is anybody left who will believe his motives are honorable?
