WP: More White House Staff Changes Coming
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/31/AR2006033101814.html

The White House is planning additional staff changes that could come as early as next week as part of a broader effort to repair relations with Congress and revive the Bush presidency, according to several Republicans familiar with the emerging strategy.

Joshua B. Bolten, who takes over April 15 as White House chief of staff, is developing a proposal to overhaul West Wing operations with the twin aims of bringing more voices into the policymaking process and avoiding staff breakdowns such as the slow response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Republicans inside and outside the White House said Bush is under pressure to do more to reshuffle his staff than simply move Bolten over from the budget office to replace Andrew H. Card Jr. As he prepares to assume the top staff job, Bolten has focused heavily on rebuilding ties with Congress, telephoning 30 key members in the first 24 hours after his appointment. And Republicans said he may bring in a new ambassador to Capitol Hill, possibly former representative Bill Paxon (R-N.Y.).

Bolten is focused on "making sure there's clear lines of authority and responsibility on issues" and "making sure the president is provided with stimulating debate on the big issues," said a senior White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid upstaging Bolten. "He has a very open mind about looking outside the family."

1. Bolten the Hatchet Man
Card wasn't going to get his hands bloody
(for the sake of his next political consulting gig)
and for sure... Bush isn't going to take responsibility
for firing anyone..... Y'know, I just can't imagine Bush in
the corporate world.. he must have sucked stinky cheese... big time.
His management style blows.... and it ain't very effective either.

Unless my memory has gone bad, Mr. paxon has a whole "closet" full of baggage. Maybe we'll see the return of Jeff Gannon.

9. Lemme guess, Karen Hughes gets promoted.
I think there is a miniscule chance he will reach out of his inner circle. That would be a total capitulation on his part.

10. "not a shake-up in response to his critics"
From the article:

"White House aides have made clear Bush wants the changes to look like the logical result of Bolten's promotion -- not a shake-up in response to his critics."

True to form. He's so predictable.

11. "...making sure the president is provided with stimulating debate...
...on the big issues"

It's like this idiot's some kind of zombie who has to eat live flesh and be hooked up to a car battery just to get a jolt of reality. Can you imagine being one of Junior's handlers? It must be a full-time job just getting the schmuck's attention, much less briefing him on anything.

What an embarrassment this guy is, and what an insult to all those out there who really do give a damn and try to put out some effort. He's just a supremely feckless little fuck who simply can't be bothered with much of anything.

before the indictments come down?

Libby is one of the few WH officials in US history to get indicted while still on staff. They always resign first.

13. repackaging?
---snip---
The White House is trying to repackage the president by having him focus extensively on Iraq while taking more questions from the public, lawmakers and media to reverse growing public doubts about his trustworthiness. And aides said Bush has vowed to focus heavily on the 2006 elections, raising more money than ever for GOP candidates on the theory that victory in November would breathe new life into his presidency.

big deal - new box design, same crap inside. focus is on elections not doing what's right for country. Changing lipstick color isn't going to help move things in the right direction.

14. Jesus, they are scared shitless
these guys are so goddam stupid it's stunning.. they OWN the govt, ALL branches, the OWN the Voting machines, they OWN the media and they are STILL scared and paranoid..

the truth is Bush and pals are doing this to convince those Right wingers running for office that he's worth standing next to in a Picture.. it's LEAD COAT TAILS TIME.

This actually gives me a little hope.. makes me wonder just how reliable the voting machines really are.. maybe they DON'T WORK right all the time, and they COULD screw up and give the WRONG result, a provable result that can't be Media'd away.. gotta be a reason..

Reminds me of this last season of the Supranos, heads will be rolling right and left.. soon we'll hear all about how Jim Smith down in the Mail Room has decided to spend more time with his family and as a result the Entire Republican Army Rubber Stamp Corp can rest easy again this election. Meanwhile Cheney has mistakenly shot several other members of the white house staff, saving them the trouble of resigning :)

Bill Mahr summed this up nicely in this weeks show, don't miss it, he actually STUMPED a republican, the man was at a LOSS for his talking points, the gears were spinning furiously, he was broadsided with a statement so damned true that not a SINGLE talking point could cover it, and the Surf Nazi from Cal looked like the robot on the old Star Trek show that Kirk had confused to the point where it melted down.. it's a yummy moment and not to be missed..
