Feingold Continues Push To Censure President

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., said Sunday that the president is not above the law and continued to make his case for censuring President George W. Bush over domestic spying.

The Wisconsin Democrat told "Fox News Sunday" that Bush "does not have a legal leg to stand on" in regard to his secretive domestic spying program.

Feingold said he wants his resolution to be voted on because the president has broken the law.

9. The man just never gives up!
And thank God he doesn't!

This, folks, is what being an American leader is all about!

You stand up and do the right thing, even though your peers don't support you. Even though it seems everything is against you, and you press on. You don't give up. You remain confident in your actions. Good is on your side, and the evil ones begin to run and hide.

I love this man, he would make a great President!

12. Yeah, just what I was thinking. He just may 'push' himself into the
nomination for President. Vice President at the very least.

Imagine, an honest realist in the oval office. It's been so long I'm afraid that I've almost forgotten what that would be like.

19. I wrote every senator, Only Reply was Bingaman D-NM
Dear Friend :

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senator Russ Feingold's resolution to censure the President for authorizing the National Security Agency (NSA) to intercept domestic communications without a warrant. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views on this important issue.

While I share your deep concerns about the legality of the President's warrantless domestic surveillance program and your desire to hold our elected officials accountable, I believe that passing a resolution censuring the President is not the most productive course of action at this time. I believe that instituting a full and thorough investigation in the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committees would better achieve the goal of determining the nature and extent of the program and whether it is being carried out in contravention of the law. In addition, I support an independent investigation into the legality of the President's actions. To this end, I am a cosponsor of S. 2362, the Surveillance Activities Commission Act. S. 2362 was introduced on March 2, 2006, and has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. This legislation would establish an independent commission to investigate the use of wa! rrantless domestic surveillance of American citizens by the Federal government. The Commission would examine and report on any instances of surveillance conducted within the United States after September 11, 2001, and would investigate whether any illegal, improper, or unethical activities were engaged in by the government in conducting such surveillance. Upon conclusion of the investigation, should evidence indicate any illegal behavior, I will take the appropriate steps necessary to hold the Administration accountable for its actions.

I believe that the government must do all it can to confront the threat of terrorism and that we must provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to ensure the safety and protection of our nation's citizens. However, I also believe that this must be done in a lawful manner which also protects the freedoms and liberties guaranteed to us by our constitution. I strongly believe we can defeat terrorism in a manner consistent with our nation's long-standing commitment to the rule of law. It is imperative that our governmental officials act within the scope of the law, and I want to assure you that I will continue to work to hold the Administration accountable for its actions.

Again, thank you for contacting my office. Please do not hesitate to contact me again regarding this or any other issue of importance to you and your community.

Sincerely,

JEFF BINGAMAN
United States Senator

27. I saw Russ on Fox this morning
and the end result was: Feingold--1, Fox--0.

Feingold was awesome. He countered every bogus argument put out by Fox with clear, honest statements. He never wavered in his views. I had to applaud him several times, as he sounded more presidential than anyone I've heard lately.

29. The Wallace kid was dumber than I imagined (TRANSCRIPT LINK)
Unless he is really a liberal plant. Because he was teeing up idiocy for Feingold to slam.

My favorite part:
And if this were a Democratic president, I think you know and everybody else knows I'd be doing the very same thing. This has nothing to do with political ambition. Believe it or not, it's because I believe in my heart that this is a threat to our system of government, and I will say that on a Bible.

He's even using their own trigger words.

Here's the Rush Transcript.
