White House shake-up to continue?
Sources: Press spokesman, treasury chief may be next

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- Presidential press secretary Scott McClellan and Treasury Secretary John Snow could be next in a shake-up in the Bush administration, according to White House and GOP sources.

The possible departure of both men could be among "several senior-level staff" announcements to come within the next couple of weeks, said former White House staff members, GOP strategists and administration officials.

"You're going to have more change than you expect," one GOP insider said.

...

But other GOP strategists said they believe McClellan's position is secure because of his close relationship with President Bush going back to Texas. McClellan was a communications aide to the president when he was governor of the Lone Star state.

1. I'd like to see them bring O'Neil back to the treasury, but I
suppose that would never happen. As for Scotty, the way he talks drives me nuts, but I'm sure he's only parroting what he's told. If he actually answered questions, he would have been tossed a long time ago.

2. More change than I expect? Hardly.
Nothing short of a change of diapers for the entire White House staff would surprise me.

3. Scotty's replacement? Cheap shoebox tape deck.

"We have already covered that." "You need to ask DOD about that." "The president has already made his thoughts clear on that." "Clearly, that is an absurd premise." "Of course only partisan extremists would ever say anything like that."

What do we need a human for?

20. Completely Agree...
But he is the devil we know, I rather he stay. The shakeup like Zinni said should start with the Defense Secretary......

4. Something's gotta give with Scotty.
If he doesn't stop his stress eating, he's going to explode - literally - during a Q&A one day. Lay off the deep-fried Mars bars or whatever it is you're stuffing your face with, Scott, neither the job nor your boss is worth it.

5. More change than I expect?
The deck chairs are going to be upholstered in plaids or stripes instead of just solid colors? Because the only change I expect from this insane, corrupt administration is purely cosmetic, and it seems to be the only change they're capable of.

10. It's a blame game, you're blame-gaming, David
David, you're initiating a blame game and we're just not going to get into that. You're trying to play the blame game. You're a blame-gamer, David.

Scotty's actually my favorite person in the administration.... I hope he doesn't leave. }(

15. What's nauseating about the whole thing...
... is that none of this matters.

If he doesn't get rid of Cheney or Rumsfeld, any staff changes at this point amount to window dressing.

You gotta love the way the lapdog press plays right into this, though. Martha Radditz was practically giddy on the Stephanopoulous show yesterday, going on and on about Bush shaking things up at the White House, and how that proves he's listening to his critics. :puke:

19. I agree with your assessment. Bolten (the new Chief of Staff)
doesn't have hire-fire authority over Darth Vader and Rumsferatu. This seems to keep the same pattern of a weak Chief of Staff exemplified by Andrew Card.

Not sure I know the full story, but I've heard #43 (perhaps acting at Darth Vader's behest) was determined not to repeat #41 and Reagan's mistakes of having a strong 2nd-term Chief of Staff (Sununu and James Baker, respectively), as those Chiefs of Staff frequently advanced their own private agenda at the expense of the White House's agenda
