Russian military stalls on reports Ukraine sold warheads to Iran

MOSCOW, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - The chief of Russia's General Staff said Monday he could neither confirm nor deny reports that Ukraine had sold 250 nuclear warheads to Iran.

"Russia's General Staff has no information about whether Ukraine has given 250 nuclear warheads to Iran or not," General Yury Baluyevsky, also deputy defense minister, said in response to an article in Novaya Gazeta newspaper Monday. "I do not comment on unsubstantiated reports."

The newspaper said that Ukraine had failed to return 250 warheads to Russia in the 1990s when the former Soviet republic declared itself a nuclear-free zone. The paper suggested the warheads could have been sold to a third country, including Iran.

2. This information
might bring the war hawks to a sudden halt.

Talking about having nukes and actually having nukes are two different things.

It is like having big brother or sister fighting off the bullies.

6. 250 warheads is a number I have problems getting my heard around.
India has 60+. Israel has 200+. UK has 250. US 10,000. Overnight Iran acquired 250?

War Against Iran, April 2006
Biological Threat and Executive Order 13292
by Jorge Hirsch

H istory repeats itself, but always with new twists. We are back to the good old days when a Declaration of War preceded the start of a war. Such declaration occurred on March 16th, 2006. Reversing the old order, we are now in the "Sitzkrieg", to be followed shortly by an aerial "Blitzkrieg" in the coming days.

In the old days, Congress declared war, and directed the Executive to take action. In the new millenium, the Executive declared war last March 16th, then Congress will pass H.R. 282, "To hold the current regime in Iran accountable for its threatening behavior and to support a transition to democracy in Iran." This bill and previous ones like it are in direct violation of the legally binding Algiers Accords signed by the United States and Iran on January 19, 1981, that states "The United States pledges that it is and from now on will be the policy of the United States not to intervene, directly or indirectly, politically or militarily, in Iran's internal affairs"; however, this is clearly of no interest to the 353 policymakers sponsoring the bill.

The US promised Russia and China that the UN Security Council statement just approved will not be a trigger for military action after 30 days; true to its promise, the US will attack before the 30-day deadline imposed by the UNSC for Iran to stop its nuclear enrichment activity, i.e. before the end of April. The "justification" is likely to be an alleged threat of imminent biological attack with Iran's involvement.

13. bird flu?
i knew they'd find a way to USE bird flu. there had to be a reason for the horribly overblown fear factor stuff. i do agree that there likely won't be any sort of buildup to the attack on iran, they'll simply do it and 'ask questions later'. i've been wondering for a while now why they haven't attacked them already.

10. STOP THE SPIN CYCLE!
Why the hell would Ukraine, after getting help from the West to throw off thier subservience to Russia suddenly do something that would make Western governments uber-pissed? what a bunch of crap BS.

11. This seems suspect.
I don't believe the Ukraine would sell warheads in the first place, but would warheads even work after ten years? I mean, these are pretty sensitive devices, whether from the standpoint of the fissionable material, the electronics, or the chemical explosives. It seems to me that they would need constant maintenance, requiring highly trained staff and specialized materials.

12. bwahaahahahahaaaaaa
ok, now that their UN plans for a 'loophole' that would 'justify' military action has fallen flat they are simply fabricating stories like this? the freepers and pundits are gonna grab this one and RUN with it. (unlike the OTHER 'smuggled suitcase nukes' story, which was buried)
