'The beginning of the reckoning'
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/DNC_statement_The_beginning_of_reckoning_0404.html

Democratic National Committee Communications Director Karen Finney today issued the following statement in response to reports that scandal-plagued former Republican House Majority Leader Tom has decided to withdraw from his re-election race:

"Tom DeLay's announcement is just the beginning of the reckoning of the Republican culture of corruption that has gripped Washington for too long. From DeLay, to Scooter Libby, to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, to Duke Cunningham, to Bob Ney, to David Safavian--the list goes on and on. Make no mistake, this Fall the American people are going to have a clear choice between Democrats who offer a bold vision based on honest leadership and real security, and Republicans who can only offer more of the same Republican culture of corruption and incompetence."

Repeat the list whomever you talk to. Let them know they are all corrupt. They steal from your family, children, and grandchildren and care not about the average man.

7. Quite a little list
Now, if you're a Republican, you have to believe that these are just a bunch of isolated incidents, a batch of apples that have just coincidentally all gone bad in the same exact way . . . or admit that you're just fine with such corrupt governance.

So, which is it, our lurking friends? Are you stupid or corrupt?

18. MAD Magazine did one years ago
It was sung (as I recall) by J. Edgar Hoover. I remember thinking how clever they were to rhyme "Senators" with "progenitors."

that issue. It was the "White House Follies of 197-" if anyone has a Mad magazine archive. (WHY did so many parents want to throw these things out?)

Edit for spelllllling.

9. I think most people now know Republicans have a culture of
corruption and it is time to stress the incompetence meme.
We need to make the GOP the "party of incompetence" just as natural as "Dems are liberal." We all really need to throw that phrase around as often as possible.

THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS THE PARTY OF INCOMPETENCE!

And INCOMPETENT is just what they are!
An easy to defend/prove phrase!

11. Or, "Incompetence and Corruption" (keeps the alliteration thing going)
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 10:12 AM by corporatemedia
Since many voters HAVE NOT even begun to pay attention to the elctions, it is too early to give up on the Corruption thing. We're all up on it, but your average voter is not as up on this shit as we at DU are.

Don't forget that the Repugs are still following Kerry around with "flip-flops" just in case he might get the nomination in '08.

13. Good point...but we need to use BOTH terms.
Both are so perfectly descriptive of the GOP. So.......

The GOP is a culture of corruption and incompetence...as originally stated. But we have to say it as often as possible!!

THE GOP IS A CULTURE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS A CULTURE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS A CULTURE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE!
THE GOP IS A CULTURE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE!

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!

14. Using BOTH terms is EXACTLY what I suggested in my subject line.
There can never be enough repetition of a good framing slogan - especially if it is true.

Hell, even when it is a lie, it works for the Repugs.

They used "elite liberal media" so often over the last few decades that most people actually believe it.

REPUBLICAN CULTURE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE

12. The beginning of the reckoning
For the scoop on Westar, see UIA's post

The short of it is that two top CEOs of a utility received sentences of 18 years and 15 years for their part in relieving the working people of their hard earned dollars in a little-reported scandal (involving Bugman) called "the Enron of Kansas."

I don't know (ha) why this story received so little coverage. The American people really need to finally learn just what kind of family values the GOP were promoting.

21. Here's where we need to pay attention...
How many people remember that the Democrats rolled out a National Security strategy last week? I'm guessing fairly few, partly because the media didn't cover it, but partly because WE haven't been repeating the message. One speech on seucity or one press release on ethics will NOT do the job; these points have to be repeated ad nauseum up until Election Day.

22. I agree...but the problem is ...no one will repeat them for us. The
"Liberal Media" just ignores us...then complains that we have no ideas or plans ...just complaints regarding Republicans.

I guess we should send those two plans to the media repeatedly till they get the message. Maybe Keith would discuss it. I not only detest Bush* but I detest the media too.

Notice how none of the media are speculating that Delay quit because he's in sooo much trouble he'll be indited or toast. Nooooo, they all say he's just thinking about his party. What a self sacrificing wonderful guy he is. BS...he doesn't want to see/hear all the charges against him and he know's he's a goner. Thank God he's gone! Does that mean God does hear our prayers?

26. At Great Risk Of Flaming...
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 08:24 PM by phrenzy
I kind of cringed when I read this, not because it isn't true, but because I don't believe it will work. I don't believe that Nascar dads and Soccer moms will be able to set aside their fear (stoked by the republicans) long enough to give a shit if Republicans are on the take. On top of that, you are going to get a counter-drum beat from all of the media that 'Democrats do it too' - More people will believe that 'all politicians are corrupt' and could see it as disingenuous for Dems to label Republicans as corrupt.

On top of that, with all the weasely internal moves the Dems have engaged in recently (see Paul Hacket, Lieberman, spinelessness, et al) people won't take them at their word.

The incompetence thing is really the thing to hit. Hold up what they SAID would happen, and drive home what REALLY happened and show the glaring disconnect. Bush's own words and proclamations will damn him.

On top of that, the risk is also to do what we did last time which was an 'ABB' drum beat. It didn't work. Not well enough anyway. They need to offer easy talking point SOLUTIONS(which I have heard Dean do, but no other dem has followed - which sucks) those points should be inserted into every press release instead of platitudes like "bold vision based on honest leadership and real security" - What the fuck does that MEAN?
