Bush Presses Iraqi Leaders to Act Fast
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday urged Iraq to move quickly to form a unity government, calling on elected leaders "to stand up and do their job."

He said the formation of a new government would give Iraqis confidence in their future.

Bush's statement, during a brief question-and-answer session with reporters in the Roosevelt Room, came on the heels of a similar admonition by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a visit to Iraq. Rice had spoken of a "sense of drift" nearly four months after Iraqis held parliamentary elections.

Bush said insurgents were using violence to prevent democracy from taking hold. "One way to help bring confidence to the Iraqi people that those few will not be able to determine the future of that country is for there to be unity government that steps up and says, `I'm willing to lead.'

1. If only he would "stand up and do his job" maybe we wouldn't have
all these worries.

3. Isn't "acting fast" what caused this trouble in the first place?
A rushed invasion followed by a rushed Coalition government followed by a rushed constitutional process followed by a rushed election.

Isn't it time to slow down and actually think about the process?

8. Exactly right.
Perhaps someone needs to drop an American history text into the stack of "books" that Bush "reads" so he can get some perspective.

American Declaration of Independence: 1776
American Constitutional Convention: 1787

It took us eleven years to get it as close to perfect as we could, and that was without sectarian civil war raging at full boil.

He's throwing around a CEO mentality when the situation calls for the diplomacy of a statesman and the patience of a craftsman.
