Fort Campbell soldier dies in Iraq after falling from helicopter

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- A Fort Campbell soldier died in Iraq after falling from a helicopter, Army officials said.

Pfc. Joseph J. Duenas, 23, of Mesa, Ariz., died while taking part in an operation in the Kirkuk Province on March 30, Fort Campbell officials said on Monday. The helicopter was landing after a nighttime combat operation.

His death remained under investigation, Department of Defense officials said.

Duenas is survived by his wife, Shawna, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother and stepfather, Rose and John Garret, of Lorenzo, Calif.; and father, Michael Tibbits, of Kapolei, Hawaii.
