Congressman Maurice Hinchey attacked the Bush administration again today, saying that they aren’t doing enough to keep gas prices down, and that Americans will continue to suffer high gas costs, and potential gas shortages in the near future, if something isn’t done about it now.
Hinchey introduced his own bill along with Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT), to combat the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which Hinchey and others believe favors the oil industry.
Hinchey and Shays’ Energy for Our Future Act is expected to encourage mass transit solutions and general usage of renewable resources, increase conservation and weatherization, and increase the corporate fuel economy standard to 40 miles per gallon.
Hinchey said that his focus is based on his assumption that Americans are being intimidated into thinking that the war has a lot to do with current gas prices; he told a news conference in his Kingston office that this is flat-out misleading.
