Online posts offer rooms in exchange for sex
Another reason for the fundies to wage war against the Internet???? You be the judge ...

April 4, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - In Atlanta, an online ad offers a room in exchange for "sex and light office duty." In Los Angeles, a one-bedroom pool house is free "to a girl that is skilled and willing." And in New York City, a $700-a.m.onth room is available at a discount to a fit female willing to provide sex.

On the widely used Web site Craigslist.org, some landlords and apartment dwellers looking for roommates are offering to accept sex in lieu of rent.

"They have to be attractive. I don't let just anybody come into my house," said Mike, a man who answered the phone at the New York City listing but declined to give his last name - and refused to say whether he has, in fact, collected the rent under the sheets.

snip...

Tenants rights groups have accused Craigslist of skirting fair housing requirements. In February, a group called the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law sued the Web site for publishing housing ads that excluded people based on their race, religion and sex.

But legal experts say Craigslist is shielded by a 1996 federal law that protects online service providers that merely pass along unedited information provided by someone else. And in most states, prostitution laws apply only if the ads are followed by e-mails, phone conversations or other acts that advance the proposition.

1. it's like the porn industry
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 02:20 PM by superconnected
Even though people tote is as something women want to do, it usually turns out to be down and out women doing it. Same for prostitution - which this is.

I guess my opinion is, ewww, dangerous. I hope the women that do answer really are mentally okay and able to support themselves, and aren't doing it because they would be homeless otherwise.

4. These Markets Have Always Existed for Sex
Craig's List just makes it more available to people without the "right" connections.

The downside is that the people making and accepting the offers there aren't getting screened.

14. Only "down and out" women do porn and prostitution?
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 03:07 PM by Der Blaue Engel
That's patently false. I know a fair number of women (and men) in the sex industry (including porn, stripping, and prostitution), and not one of them has ever been "down and out." They all love what they do. Hell, if I had a body like theirs, I'd be doing it, too.

Edited to respond to edited post.

18. already misquoted, I did not say "ONLY."
I said usually.

I don't doubt you know people in the sex industry.

19. You're right, your post does say "usually"
Although I could have sworn I read it differently. Sorry. It wasn't a deliberate attempt to misquote you. However, it doesn't change my point.

I'm not sure if you're trying to imply some kind of insult by saying that you don't doubt I know people in the sex industry, or if you're just acknowledging that you don't think I'm a liar, but, yes, I do know a number of people in the industry, which is why I feel compelled to correct statements like this when I see them.

I used to believe like you do, that most women in the business couldn't possibly be doing it because they wanted to and they enjoyed it, that they had to be being exploited, but then I met a number of people in the business and discovered I was wrong. (I'm sure there are women who are in different circumstances than the ones I know, but I've never met a single woman who felt that way, and I've met them through varying circumstances.) I've found that perpetuating this idea only hurts women in the industry, because it keeps the whole thing stigmatized and shrouded in shame, and reinforces the idea that sex and women's bodies should be regulated and/or criminalized for our own protection.

23. Someone else seems to have already had a similar idea
With titles such as The Passions of the Christ, Brotherly Love, Love Thy Neighbor and Oh God, I’m Coming under his belt, Lang figured that it was just a matter of time before Paramount would be tapping him to direct their next feature, but Lang has instead become enemy number one of the Christian right and now faces possible criminal charges. Lang’s trailerhome has been egged, his tires have been slashed, and he has received several death threats.

:D

(Of course, your title's better.)

24. In my version...
all the Romans speak with Australian accents, have pieces of cork dangling from their helmets, and all their soldiers are named "Bruce."

Jesus is an Aborigines Australian and Pontius Pilate looks like Mel Gibson and spews quotes from the Lethal Weapons movies.

3. Well, it's CRAIGSLIST, after all
http://www.gawker.com/topic/even-republicans-can-get-laid-with-craigslist-020480.php

Last refuge of the truly insane and beloved time-killer Craigslist has raised the bar in a manner we know our readers can truly appreciate: the sexualization of Republicans. That's right, not everyone in NYC is pissed about the swarms of conservatively-clad bumpkins. In fact, searching for "republican" amongst the personal ads reveals many a generous New Yorker willing to show our fine guests the best this city has to offer, including warm bodies eager to offer elderly men "a good republican spanking." Or, if that's too gentle for those repressed right-wingers, there's always the "republican gangbang" option, which we think is related to Thursday night's Next Generation party for the young'uns.

http://www.wonkette.com/politics/sexstarved-republican-staffers/
"capitol hill republican staffer bored, restless and wet at work. fancy yourself a storyteller? drop me an email and let me know how'd you'd brighten my day. you should be 24-38, and preferably a capitol hill staffer or vendor. that makes it more exciting...." Well, you could try writing a novel... (Craigslist)

To suggest that one is not going to see completely bizarre postings on that forum is like saying one is never going to see Mickey at Disney World!

Guess it's "more honest" or some such shit if you don't earn your living with your naughty bits or something.

7. The internet isnt the problem at all.
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 02:41 PM by K-W
These types of arrangements have always existed, the internet is just a new way of arranging it, one that gives the authorities a unique opportunity to catch people in a form of prostitution that is rarely detected.

22. And I am sure Mike is a gorgeous stud with a classic-six just
waiting for the lucky winner. "I don't just let anybody come into my house?" - sounds like he can't GET ANYBODY to come into his house, which might explain the advertisement.
