Gov. Ed Rendell continues to flex muscle as Pennsylvania’s record-holder for raising campaign cash.
Rendell's latest finance report, filed today with the Pennsylvania State Department, shows he raised about $3.5 million this year through March 27, the cutoff date for this reporting period. His report shows about $15.5 million in cash on hand.
Recent polls show a tight race between Rendell and Lynn Swann, the presumptive Republican nominee. Swann’s latest finance report, also due to be filed today, was not available this morning.
Since January 2005, Rendell has raised more than $17 million for his re-election bid and appears on track to match the $42.6 million he spent winning the office in 2002. Through the May primary in 2002, Rendell had raised $18.9 million.
