84 Lumber To Close 13 Ohio Stores (67 stores to close across USoA)
http://www.newsnet5.com/money/8464632/detail.html

EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. -- The 84 Lumber chain said it will close 67 stores in 19 states, including 13 in Ohio.

The company said it's shutting down stores in slow-growing and rural markets and will focus on faster-growing areas in hopes of boosting sales.

Company officials say about 600 employees will be affected by the store closings. About two-thirds are expected to accept jobs at other stores.

3. Actually, I don't think it is related to the bush economy
More like sprawl.

Example would be where I live. Old hood from the 60's. People are leaving in droves to go to newer places that have sprung up - newer houses, and a lot more expensive.

So now we have my area where houses are dirt cheap and poorer folks more here, those with more money move elsewhere. Stores close down here all the time - only to reopen later in those new areas (figuring the poor trash like me will drive to nice areas to shop but people in nice areas won't drive here).

I have seen this happen a lot here. But now the tide is slowly, very slowly, turning here as they have taken some local areas (once field) and put up all new houses. A few stores have crept back but not nearly enough - in fact I cannot get a domino's pizza delivered to my house (and not because crime is high here, it's not really at all) because they move closer to the new divisions and further from us.

They have redone the mall here and Mayor coleman is putting money into the east side area where I live - the biggest problem though is all these old areas - nothing new and catchy to bring in folks. The stores followed the money and people, while the older folks in this area get zilch.
