Homeland Security Agent charged in Polk County computer sex case
http://www.tampabays10.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=28228

BARTOW, Florida — A high-ranking spokesman for the Homeland Security office in Washington, D.C., was arrested Tuesday night on Polk County charges of using a computer to seduce a child, the sheriff's office announced.

Arrested at his home in Silver Springs, Md., was Brian J. Doyle, 55, the Deputy Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C.

He is accused of 23 counts related to the use of a computer to seduce a child and transmitting harmful materials to a minor, the sheriff's office reported.

His arrest is the result of a joint investigation by the Polk County Sheriff s Office, working with Florida s 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Jerry Hill's office, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Inspector General's Office.

100. Please do not assume ANYTHING about this man's guilt. For all we know
he is a potential whistleblower who has been framed.

Viva, I'm sorry to jump in here hours after your post, but I just saw this, and I am upset by your willingness to pronounce this man guilty and to use foul language on him, just as if we were a stirred up lynch mob.

I do not trust anything the Bush junta does, especially this kind of prosecution. They have stooped to the lowest depths to smear people who oppose them. In the case of Capt. James Yee, the Guantanamo Bay chaplain whom they accused of unauthorized transporting of government documents (which turned out to be normal information a chaplain would have about prisoners) and treason (utterly baseless), after these charges evaporated (in a military court, mind you), they THEN accused him of having pornography in his computer, with his family sitting in the courtroom--just to have something to accuse him of, and to embarrass him, in order to justify their obvious harassment (he was a Muslim chaplain). All charges evaporated, but his career was ruined. The only thing he had been guilty of was caring for the people in his charge.

Similar dirty rotten smears were perpetrated against Scott Ritter, John McCain, and Max Cleland--Bushites being the known perps. They were also likely behind the baseless corruption charges against Calif Sec of State Kevin Shelley (who had sued Diebold and decertified the worst of their election theft machines prior to the 2004 election). We know they spit on John Kerry's medals for valor in Vietnam, through their Swiftboaters. They tried to smear Richard Clark. They more than tried to smear Joseph Wilson--they went after his wife, and put the lives of many US covert agents and contacts around the world at risk of getting killed. They fired Sibel Edmonds and put a gag order on her, merely for telling the truth. (They also gagged Capt. Yee.)

This is a "modus operandi" of the Bushites--false charges, smears, and dangerous and disgusting dirty tricks. They are world class liars and deceivers.

We should wait and see on any charge like this. My FIRST thought, upon reading this story, was, "What does this man know?" And I think that that is a good instinct for anything this junta says and does: SUSPICION!

maybe he was just about to blow a whistle-they had to destroy any credibility-

Usually I do take the MSN with a grain of salt, but it was an adult female cop he was talking to. They have it all on tape! He is BUSTED!

If this was someone who had spoken out against B*sh I might give it a look-see, but he was caught... over and over. I don't care if he was the biggest liberal, anti-war, food-for-the-homeless, ghandi peacenic... they have him cold.

164. Peace Patriot makes excellent points.
In these days of electronic stuff, how hard would it be to frame someone, using what appears to be someone's email address?

With phishing and people putting viruses on a computer, would it be that hard to do?

Anyway, let's see what the story brings, and hope that the truth comes out, whatever it may be. Not always likely given the people at the top of the "Justice" Department.

PS I believe Sibel Edmonds sister overseas was threatened as well.

115. You've obviously never been to Polk County.....
When I first read this I asked myself, "Polk County, Florida"? I lived in Highlands County, right next door to Polk, for a few years and all I remember Polk County for was speed-traps on Route 27. There isn't much to Polk County, most of it it orange groves or scrub-brush. It's also home to Frostproof, FL and lovely Mulberry, FL :puke: where the phosphate mines pollute the environment at breakneck speed. Up until now Polk County's claim to fame was a mention in the movie, "Identity" starring John Cusack, and Amanda Peet. I can't believe the Polk County Sheriff's Office has the resources to pull off sting operations like this. They're usually too busy writing traffic tickets for anything else.

139. I moved there in October, 2001....
Avon Park, to be specific. Nice little town but after a few Florida summers I couldn't stand it anymore. Usually hovering right around 100 degrees everyday with 100% humidity. You can actually watch vines grow down there in the summer. Highlands also has the most lightning strikes of anywhere in the United States. I found that out the hard way after my home was hit in the summer of 2003. There's some great bass fishing lakes in Polk County though. 9 lb. bass, one right after another in lake "Walk in Water" in Frostproof. I DO miss that!

Being from the shores of Lake Ontario in New York State, I really missed the change of seasons more than I anticipated. I moved back in June of last year but still visit relatives in Florida during the winter months. Not the official "snowbird" thing, but just enough to break up the winter.

I guess I should have researched my mover there better. I fell for the whole "retirement paradise" myth and regretted it. It also cost me a heap of money but what are you going to do. Even at this age I'm learning by my mistakes. ;)

Are you from Highlands, Polk?

143. I'm from Good Ol' Polk, aka Poke.
Been here since the 80s. The Hwy 27 stretch through Polk is rather bleak looking, although there is incredible growth at the northern end just below Lake County. Thanks again to our moran county commissioners, who were very slow to assess competetive impact fees for new construction, and Polk's population has ballooned in that NE corner far past the county's capacity to provide decent services.

Polk does have some neat parks, but I agree that the phosphate industry is a blight on much of southern Polk.

I've been to Avon Park a few times. A bit small to suit my tastes, but I generally like that part of the state, along the ridge.

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 09:55 AM by YDogg
... related establishments / companies / etc., and keep them out. Actually, there are no "gentlemen's clubs" in Polk anymore, or businesses that sell adult movies / products. The round-up started in the 1980s, I believe, and the sheriff's dept has worked to close down any business that comes close to crossing the lines of local standards of decency, defined by the sheriff's dept and local conservatives. Not everyone in Polk buys into this extreme paternalistic "protection", but in this vein it is not surprising that the Polk sheriff's dept would be involved in an investigation like this.

Polk (2,010 sq mi) is larger than Rhode Island. Lots of rural area, but a couple of decent-sized population centers.

One of the current (R-of course) county commissioners was arrested a few years ago for smacking his wife. So much for family values.

And in either case, it's a media report.

Until someone finds somewhere some indication that he was a Bush-appointee or a Repub the assumptions are baseless.

Maybe he's a democrat, what then? The room falls silent except for the sound of egg being wiped off faces? :)

DHS was created in 2002 - during the first * administration. He isn't known for filling positions with Democrats.

If he's a Democrat, he isn't suddenly off-limits around here. What he did was sick. Remember too, * is asking us to trust those who spy on us.

saying that all the posts in this thread like these ones:

"It's probably more happiness that these sicko Rethugs are actually being held accountable for once!"
"we got another of the sick degenerates to put on the list of Republican pedophiles and perverts."
"Culture of corruption AND scandal"
"the news keeps getting better and better!!first DeLay then Doyle."

are going to appear pretty silly if he's not republican.

And the DHS has hundreds of employees, they are not all filled by Bush. So in that sense it is baseless, until something concrete comes up on the matter of how he got his job and what his politics are.

10. More on this scum:

According to investigators, on last March 12th, Doyle contacted who he thought was a 14-year-old girl whose profile was posted on the Internet, and initiated a sexually explicit conversation with her. The girl was actually an undercover Polk County Sheriff s Computer Crimes detective. Doyle knew that the girl was 14 years old, and he told her who he was and that he worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"During future online chats, Doyle gave the undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl his office phone number and his government-issued cell phone number, so that they could have telephone conversations, in addition to their online chatting," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "Doyle used the Internet to send hard-core pornographic movie clips to the girl and used the AOL Instant Messenger chat service to have explicit sexual conversations with her.

"The investigation revealed that the phone numbers given to the detective were in fact Doyle's, and that the AOL account used was registered to Doyle. Doyle also sent photos of himself to the detective, which were not sexually explicit but did serve to further positively identify him,"
Last week and arrest warrant was signed by Judge J. Dale Durrance, charging Doyle with seven counts of Using a Computer to Seduce a Child, and 16 counts of Transmission of Harmful Material to a Minor.

The sheriff's office said Doyle was taken into custody at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at his residence by the Montgomery County, Md., Police Department and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on the Polk County charges. he will be extradited to Polk County.

Homeland official arrested in online sex sting
Agency's deputy press secretary held for soliciting for a child on Internet

Updated: 10:16 p.m. ET April 4, 2006
MIAMI - SNIP

Brian J. Doyle, 55, of Silver Spring, Md., was arrested on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.

Doyle had a sexually explicit conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl whose profile he saw on the Internet on March 14, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The girl was an undercover Polk County Sheriff’s Computer Crimes detective, the sheriff’s office said.

I was searching to see if Mr. Doyle gave money to republicans.. and I found a Brian Doyle, who worked for HNTB in the past, and gave to repubs. ANd.. while researching HNTB, I noticed that they had mucho govt contracts, INCLUDING homeland security. Sooo... i'd guess he was hired on to HS after working for HNTB.. and is a republican. It'd be quite a coincidence for that company to have had a man named Brian Doyle on their payroll, donating to repubs, AND to have them doing Homeland security and other govt contracts... Don't know if it's the same guy, of course, but the coincidence is stunning.

So even later, were they not doing security clearance checks? It would be amazing to me if they didn't -- and serious...

And if they were, how could a pedophile slip through? He wasn't good at being secretive (apparently he gave out info to the "girl"); on the other hand, it's hard to believe this was his very first would-be offense, and he just happened to get caught the first time.

90. I don't think it was...
the first time he had done something like this. In the MSN article I read he was doing some pretty sophisticated working of what he thought was a 14 year old girl. Sending her explicit films, IMing with her, sending her pictures of himself, using his job and title to impress her. He was "courting" her the way pedophiles "court" children. It was really a deputy sheriff, but he was choreographing it so well there had to have been prior incidents.

He was also using government time and resources and giving out his office phone number. So now they are putting him on "Admin leave" which is paid time. Another example of my tax dollars being used to support a disgusting criminal. First the murderer Brown from FEMA and now the Pedophile. Another fine public servant supporting those wonderful moral values which helped get the Republican majority elected. They must be very proud.

DeLay has said he is quitting to spend more time with orphans. Orphans? I wonder what he will teach them?

I can't wait for the republicans to go on the TV and be all "He stepped down, not for the child he was going to molest, but for all the children he never touched. He is a man of courage, of principle, we all owe him a debt of gratitude for helping to make sure ALL Americans are safe, even the little girls. And it's a shame that the climate in Washington has fallen to such a low that a man can't even do his job, protecting the American people from terrorists like those who attacked us on 9/11 -- we were attacked on 9/11 -- can't even do his job without the liberal media attack machine and the activist judges going after them. They won't have Doyle to kick around anymore."

52. My point is the Republicans accuse Democrats of having zero
family values.

The fact is there have been many stories in the news about Republicans getting busted for sex crimes against children.

And by the way, Republicans have no trouble accusing gay people of being child molesters. And that is outrageous.

So you shouldn't go running to the Republican's defense so quickly until you do a little research of your own about the disturbing number

of child sex crime arrests involving Republicans, including pastors.

All you have to do is read that link I posted, to recognize Republicans aren't quite as family value oriented as they want everyone to

believe.

Instead of being pissed that I accused you of running so quickly to the defense of Republicans, why don't you pull just one of the many

points I've taken the time in listing for you, and tell me how I'm wrong.

Otherwise, you've wasted enough of my time.

There wasn't really a 14-year-old at the other end of the line. Nobody was hurt (except Doyle :nopity: and, unfortunately, his family, whom I do feel sorry for).

This would have been a very sad story if a real teenager had been affected. We can rejoice unreservedly that a bad guy was caught (I don't think any of us really care what his political affiliation is, except it makes the administration look just that little bit more yucky--he preys on children and would be just as scummy if he were a Democrat. It's not as though there aren't non-politician Democrats out there who are perverts. All these predators should be locked up and the key disposed of).

who campaign as being the christians who have all of these family values.

Every chance they get, they insinuate Democrats do not have family values.

So when you see Republican after Republican get busted for this shit, lots of us are very interested in political affiliations.

It shows what liars the Republicans are when they say they're the true party of virtue, and the party of all that is good and christian.

42. WP pick up: Homeland Security Official Arrested
MIAMI -- The deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said.

Brian J. Doyle, 55, of Silver Spring, Md., was arrested on charges of use of a computer to seduce a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor. The charges were issued out of Polk County, Fla.

During other online conversations, Doyle revealed his name, that he worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and offered his office and government issued cell phone numbers, the sheriff's office said.

Homeland Security press secretary Russ Knocke in Washington said he could not comment on the details of the investigation. "We take these allegations very seriously, and we will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation," Knocke said.

Several law enforcement agencies worked together to arrest Brian Doyle.

A deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been arrested on Polk County charges.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Brian J. Doyle, 55, the deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., was arrested Tuesday evening at his residence in Silver Springs, Maryland.

Doyle faces 23 Polk County charges related to the use of a computer to seduce a child and transmitting harmful materials to a minor.

Doyle's arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the Polk County Sheriff s Office, Florida's 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Jerry Hill's office, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Inspector General's Office.

According to the sheriff's office, on March 12 Doyle contacted a 14-year-old girl whose profile was posted on the Internet, and initiated a sexually explicit conversation with her. The girl was actually an undercover Polk County Sheriff's Computer Crimes detective.

Did he ever have an ACTUAL phone conversation with the "14-year-old girl"?

Is all they have a series of purported computer interactions?

If so, hold on, and once again, ask whether this guy knew too much about something and could possibly have been framed.

I am in no way defending anyone who actually seeks out underage children for sexual conversations or activities.

But, how hard would it be to emulate his web address, if someone were highly motivated and had some technical skill, and perhaps some official reason to do so?

It doesn't matter that he didn't actually communicate with a minor in this case. He was seeking to. Plus he probably had in the past. There was apparently probable cause for the police to include him in this sting operation.

95. List of GOP Perverts
Not to single out the Republicans per se, I just wanted to post this list as it was sent to me. I have not had the time to look up each individual to verify authenticity, I've compiled about a third of the links for verification.

And I think it's fair to bring up the "conspiracy theory" that these PNAC, Skull & Bones, New World Order bastards engage in pedophilia as a means of blackmail. 101. Does anyone find this story is a bit too "easy" ?
They don't know this guys history but hes a high ranking Homeland Security official?

Something seems a little fishy to me here.

On one hand the conviction was given to Mr. Doyle before we even know who he is? Now "DUers" are asking here if he's a Democrat. How interesting that some "DUers" would be so compelled to repeatedly say we don't know if he's a Republican or not. When has this Administration appointed Democrats to top positions other than Zell Miller, and that wasn't a top position.

Also, remember who owns the media.

Seems one might benefit from proceeding with open eyes on this one.

Consider the source from which we are receiving information.

103. I'm finding the comments of some DUers in this thread appalling.
The man is accused of this...I was going to say crime, but I'm not sure myself that entrapment creates guilt. He didn't molest anyone--they are basing the criminal charge on what they assume he was thinking when he communicated certain information to an undercover cop. What if he was doing his own investigation? What if the whole thing was a set-up, to silence him for something else?

We cannot rule out blackmail, dirty tricks, silencing of a potential dissenter or whistleblower, and all sorts of other possibilities, until we know more. And right now, the only information we have is from the war profiteering corporate news monopolies and cops who were working WITH a department of Homeland Security.

I don't assume anything. Not a damn thing. Much as people would like to gloat over a high Bushite official accused of...what? Intending to degrade a child? Intending to molest a child? Something foul, in any case. We should resist that temptation. There are also some things that are very odd--his giving her his real name and photo and identifying himself as working for Homeland Security. This just doesn't make sense. If he was intending to do something to what he thought was a child--or if he broke some law by material that he sent to what he thought was a child--he would have to be seriously demented to do it in his own identity as an OFFICIAL OF HOMELAND SECURITY.

This story smells. And I wouldn't put it past devious, lying, deceitful Bushites to have SET UP the Polk County cops to BELIEVE that he was guilty of something.

It's possible that he IS guilty--guilty of being entrapped, as described--but, frankly, I wouldn't bet on it.

106. Hi-Tech Crime Task Force cops spend a lot of time in chat rooms
posing as kids in order to catch predators.

You need to understand what entrapment is.

If someone is in a chat room or online and starts propositioning someone they think is a kid (even if that "kid" is a cop) and the cop plays along and sets up a meeting point and the person is arrested, that is NOT entrapment.

If the cops send out an e-mail encouraging people to go to a specific chat room to meet kids (and it's all a bunch of cops), and they set up a meeting point, then that IS entrapment.

It's the same thing with drugs. If someone goes to a crack house, and buys from an undercover officer who is hiding out there....that's NOT entrapment.

If an undercover cop tells someone you should really go to this crack house because you can get some good shit....that IS entrapment

I don't think the story smells. There are zillions of child predators online in chat rooms to nail. The cops don't need to fish and fish for suspects.

Now this person is certainly innocent until proved guilty, so I understand to a degree your concern about people convicting this guy ahead of time.

I just think your headline that you find some of the comments "appalling" is being, with due respect, overly dramatic.

Trust me, I'm the first to jump on that (like the John DeLorean set-up). This guy didn't commit a "thought crime" -- he committed a crime. And, these dudes, like rapists, build up to doing stuff... sooner or later (if he hasn't already), the odds are he would have done something physically to a minor.

He was arrested fair and square.

might have the right to wire tap your teen-age daughter without a warrant, isn't it?

Maybe this guy isn't involved in that level of the department or administration, but this should wake a few people up as to why we can't just trust people (and I don't care what party) in power to make good decisions without some oversight. Who's to say the people in charge of wiretapping without warrants don't house such a pervert? Who's to say that the man listening in to YOUR phone isn't actually taking notes on what YOUR teenage daughter tells her closest friends about her likes, dislikes, fears, turn-ons, and everything else a pervert like this could use to bait and trap her. Like, what time she goes to the mall alone. What time you'll be out of the house. What evidence could be planted to frame you for anything that happens?

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 05:05 AM by leftchick
isn't that term a little uh, soft for a potential child molester?

This undated image made available Tuesday, April 4, 2006 by the Polk County, Fla. Sherriff's office shows U.S. Department of Homeland Security deputy press secretary Brian Doyle. Doyle, 55, was arrested Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in Maryland for using the Internet to seduce what he thought was a teenage girl, authorities said. He was booked into Maryland's Montgomery County jail where he was waiting to be extradited to Florida, the sheriff's office said. (AP Photo/Polk Country Florida Sherriff's Office)

<snip>

Doyle found the teenager's profile online and began having sexually explicit conversations with her on the Internet on March 14, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

He sent the girl pornographic movie clips, as well as non-sexual photos of himself, officials said. One of the photos, released by the sheriff's office, shows Doyle in what appears to be DHS headquarters. He is wearing a Homeland Security pin on his lapel and a lanyard that says " TSA."

The Transportation Security Administration is part of the Homeland Security Department.

During online conversations, Doyle revealed his name, who he worked for and offered his office and government-issued cell phone numbers, the sheriff's office said.

On several occasions, Doyle instructed her to perform a sexual act while thinking of him and described explicit activities he wanted to have with her, investigators said.

Doyle was online at the time awaiting what he thought was a nude image of a girl who had lymphoma, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in an interview with Fox News' "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren."

He used a government issued cell phone to commit some of the crimes. Not stated was whether or not the computer used was a government computer, but it may have been.

147. Now this person deserves to be arrested
and his nasty face(that he keeps hiding in the videos) needs to be smeared all over the television 24/7.

We want interviews with his parents/ex wife and we want pictures of him as a child and we need to let HIS SELECTOR for Homeland Security, GW, have a one on one interview with everyone in the Massanger Service for the Banana Republican Party.

He needs to sit for interviews with his Partner in Crime Chernoff.

We need Rita Cosby on all day long, explaining the dangers of these kinds of acts.
She should be providing phone numbers that parents can call for help with their children and computers safety.

Why don't they interview Bill Gates/google/the police/school Principals and Supt's, we need these folks exposed in the Post Office and at School PTA meetings.

In the quick info about this creep, they mentioned that he was trying to hook up with a 15 year old Cancer patient --now you can't get much lower than that Bush Croonie!

But the last time I looked, Silly Soley O'Brien was doing an in depth interview with Cynthia McKinney. Soley was getting all in her face and refusing to let Cynthia say anything that was not what she wanted to hear.

Frank Figueroa, the former head of Immigrations and Customs who was brought up on charges for rubbing himself while staring at a girl in an Orlando mall, has had a sudden change of heart from his adamant not-guilty plea, and has now pled no contest.

Think there's been a desperate move to try and get all this out of the media spotlight asap?

When you're on the outs with Stalin, you get erased
even from historical photographs!
Above are Lenin (left) and Trotsky in a crowd.
When Trotsky fell out of favor, he was dropped from the photo
— and this was before Photoshop®!

170.  More child sex troubles at DHS...
Frank Figueroa, the former head of the Department of Homeland Security’s program to stop child predators (Operation Predator), today pleaded no contest to charges he exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl. According to the victim, “Figueroa pulled up a leg of his shorts, exposed himself and masturbated for about 10 minutes” in front of her.

I tried the link and it was ok.

He's a former long-time Time magazine Washington bureau employee, a civil servant, and a registered Democrat.

Good thing I'm not one of those types of people who would say "Told ya so...", or this would be one of those times I'd say it. It's so annoying when people do that.

EDIT: The link STILL does not work for me. Would you mind posting some of that article pls.?
