House GOP lacks agenda, DeLay says
Departing Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas said yesterday that House Republicans have no vision or agenda and have let the Democrats choose the GOP leadership.

"We don't have an agreed agenda -- breaking up our leadership has taken its toll," Mr. DeLay told a small group of reporters invited to his offices in the Cannon House Office Building.

The interview came only hours after Mr. DeLay had announced in Houston that he would resign his House seat in the coming weeks, giving his party time to name someone else to stand for election from the conservative 22nd District of Texas.

The House GOP leadership "breakup" he spoke of began when he relinquished his House majority leader's post in September after a local Democratic prosecutor won a grand jury indictment against him on campaign-finance charges. Some of his former aides and associates have been indicted or convicted on various charges, and Democrats have painted Mr. DeLay as the leader of the Republican "culture of corruption" they say they're campaigning against.

4. Which Is It, Tommy-Boy?
It's either the Democrats or the Republicans that don't have a vision, it can't be both.

8. Two Visions Revealed
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 01:24 PM by Demeter
The GOP Vision: a mass Obliviation Spell makes the world forget everything since November of 2000, and Bush, Cheney and Co. along with Katharine Harris, Duke Cunningham, Jack Abramoff and Tom DeLay, vanish from the face of the earth forever.

The Democratic Vision: descending in a cloud of glory, the perfect Candidate appears. Every Democrat, Independent, and previously open-minded Republican swears allegiance, overwhelms the voting process, and the Golden Age begins--all without having to lift a finger to clean up the mess of the last 6 years. Accompanied by Universal, Single-Payer health care and revived Unions. The entire issue of Women's Rights vanishes. (Those that want them have them, those that don't, don't. Therefore, no Male Chauvinist Pig has the rights of a woman.)

9. Translation: Repukes are nothing without Tom Delay
Talk about arrogance! Delay is basically saying the GOP is nothing without him and should kiss his behind for his backwards "agenda".

Don't let the door smack you on the way out, Delay!

28. I was going to say...
Unchecked greed, lust for power, violent suppression of opposition, robbing from the poor to give to the rich, total destruction of the environment, establishment of a fascist police state, making the US the most hated country on earth, it seems to me they have quite an ambitious agenda.

12. Oh, it does!
And it's very consistent. Screwing the not-rich to feed the rich and to use any means available to that ends. Systematic moronization and stupefaction of the masses, in particular through the promotion of religion, and the demotion of critical thinking, lies, dissimulations, manipulations, theft, forgery, murder if necessary etc... It's really just a matter of who is going to do the job. And who does the job is barely relevant. DeLay is a barely relevant crook.

13. The Houston Chronicle was FULL of DeLay stories....
For example, local Republicans are bewildered about their next step. Special election to finish Tom's term? A committee to select the new nominee? (Yes, he CAN apply his campaign contributions to his legal expenses.)

In one story, Tom said he was planning to tour the country, energizing the Conservative base. Yes, Tom--stay in the limelight!

Cragg Hines, the Chronicle's Washington columnist, had a good piece. I'm only snipping a bit.

Get out your handkerchief and bid DeLay fond adieu

By CRAGG HINES
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

TEN or so weeks and counting.

I'm trying not to smirk, but it's hard.....

One note as DeLay prepares to take up legal residence at his condominium in the Washington suburb of Alexandria, Va. He's probably out of luck on any bid to carry a concealed handgun. Just as in Texas, where DeLay has sought to fight the ban on indictees packing heat, the Old Dominion doesn't allow licenses for anyone facing a felony charge, said Commonwealth's Attorney S. Randolph Sengel.

"I think that would apply in this case," Sengel said, and "preclude him from being issued a permit."

Whew, says one Texan who lives in Virginia.

21. How the Democrats can win every election from now on:
#1. Enforce US immigration and border laws. Deport illegal aliens. 90% of Americans want this. Anything less is simply unacceptable.

#2. Never, ever raise (and try to lower) income taxes on anyone that makes less than $100,000 per year. Knock the 28%, 25%, 15%, and 10% brackets down by 1% per year, until they are completely gone after 28 years. 5% of US taxpayers pay 80% of the taxes, and they have armies of tax lawyers and accountants doing battle for them. The average family making $90,000, $60,000, or $30,000 a year is on their own, and is getting screwed.

#3. Make the official position on guns this: "We support the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which gives all US citizens the right to keep and bear any gun used by the US military" (That's really what it means after all). And then act to dismantle all laws that infringe on this right. Everyone knows that 99% of all gun crime is caused by 1% of the population, usually inner-city and drug related. Average citizen gun owners are as law-abiding and trustworthy as average US citizen car owners, or kitchen knife owners, or baseball bat owners ... you get the point.

That's it. Democrats would win with 75% or more of the electorate every time. Forever.
