"The American Civil Liberties Union is accusing federal prosecutors of ethnic bias in a methamphetamine sting last summer in which Asian convenience store owners in Georgia were charged with selling household ingredients that can be used to make the highly addictive drug," Kate Zernike writes in the Thursday edition of The New York Times.

"The group said that prosecutors ignored extensive evidence that white-owned stores were selling the same items to methamphetamine makers, focusing instead on Asians to take advantage of language barriers," the article continues. "Forty-four of the 49 people charged were Indian, and 23 out of 24 stores in the sting were Indian owned or operated."

TV 8 News has learned FBI agents and local law enforcement authorities are conducting a raid of service stations and businesses owned by Middle Easterners in Northeast Louisiana. Agents executed search warrants today at 10 businesses in Tallulah, Delhi, Lake Providence, Monroe and Ruston. The FBI says the raids are part of "an ongoing criminal investigation." Police sources tell TV 8 News the raids target possible money laundering and counterfeiting in connection with suspected domestic terrorist activity. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is said to be taking part in the investigation. TV 8 News will have details at 5, 6, and 10.

1. There isn't enough info

If there was money laundering and counterfeiting involved, that would be one thing.

Simply selling the ingredients, that would be another. Dollar, discount, and convenient stores sell the same items.

2. Drug war

After Communism petered out they shifted to the pot war. Then it was 911 and terror. Now that is losing strength so we have a meth war meaning that I can't get the asthma drug I need. (unless I pay $80 for clinic visit and $50 for presciption)
People in my rural community watch each other like hawks now. Meth is a most dangerous drug but there is something fishy about the PR media war surrounding it.

3. meth affects everyone and everything even

if you don't use it yourself. The chemicals poison the earth and because it is illegal, the chemicals are dumped in the river and on the ground. For that alone, I am glad to see attention paid. I hate it that instead of really finding the cookers and sellers, they pick on people who can't defend themselves. :grr:

My UPS driver tells me that after attending his cousin's funeral (meth related) that it appeared most of the town of about 300 people were using. It is so bad that it rots the person's teeth completely out of their heads and pustules form on their skin. This is terrible and destroys families and lives.

completely disgraceful and criminal. and the original 'news story'?
