5. US says Iraqi militant behind Sgrena kidnapping
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi forces have captured the prime suspect in the kidnapping of Italian journalist Guiliana Sgrena, the U.S. military said on Thursday
The statement said Muhammad al-Ubaydi, a former senior intelligence official under Saddam Hussein with close ties to the al-Qaeda leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was arrested on March 7.

Sgrena was released last year but an Italian intelligence officer escorting her to freedom was shot and killed by U.S. forces.

The military said Ubaydi was the former aide to the Chief of Staff of intelligence under Saddam and now heads a group it identified as the Secret Islamic Army in northern Babel province.

The U.S. military has often said it has captured key Zarqawi aides and less senior associates of the Jordanian militant who has claimed responsibility for some of the most spectacular suicide bombings in Iraq.

Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabor has said Zarqawi is too weak to do any more serious damage in Iraq but that assessment has been challenged by western intelligence officials.

Top Zarqawi aide captured
By Jay Deshmukh in Baghdad
April 07, 2006
THE US military announced it had captured a top al-Qaeda linked operative who was the key suspect in the kidnapping of Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena last year.
Separately, the Iraqi authorities also announced arrests of three other "terrorists", two of whom were caught disguised as women.

The US military said a massive manhunt by Iraqi and US forces led to the arrest last month of Mohammed Hilal Hammad Ubaydi, also known as Abu Ayman, a former aide to the intelligence chief under Saddam Hussein.

It said he had "strong ties" to al-Qaeda's Iraq frontman, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and was the leader of the Secret Islamic Army, a militant outfit operating in the Babel province south of Baghdad.

He was caught on March 7 in Al-Mahmudiyah, south of Baghdad, but his arrest was not immediately announced pending a DNA test, which "confirmed this is Abu Ayman", the military said. (and they beat the sh*t out of him in some hell hole prison)

Please note,he's not called the number two man.

19. Excuse JoeM, I did not read yours before posting mine ... how weird!
Really, we think alike because, perhaps, it's true?

Won't get fooled again!

Number Two? Top Lieutenant? Top Aide?

How many of these EvilDoers are there?

Perhaps platoon size (30-40) because we've already accounted for a full Infantry Squad (10-12)?

So much for being on cue. Do we capture these people retroactively, or stall the reporting of it?

23. I know. That's why they saved the information
from a month ago.

News when you need it? as opposed to when it happens.
