OAKLAND, Calif. — A neurosurgeon arrested last month after becoming belligerent in an operating room won't be charged, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Dr. Federico Castro-Moure, chief neurosurgeon at Highland Hospital, was jailed March 6. He allegedly wrestled with sheriff's deputies who were called when he became belligerent while waiting for surgical instruments to be sterilized.

Castro-Moure, 45, has been suspended from performing surgery while the state and county investigate.

Nurses and deputies said they believed Castro-Moure was drunk but that he refused to submit to a proper breath test.

1. Neurosurgeon drunk? Wait a minute. That is not good. Tinkering
around in somebody's skull (or whatever) intoxicated.

That is beyond nuts.

And if you think the surgeons are bad...you really DON'T want to know what's up with your dentist's personal life.

4. So, you have to submit to a breath test if you're suspected
of drunk driving, but not if you're suspected of drunk operating. That makes sense.

10. Actually no.
You can refuse and make them arrest you and obtain a warrent. However, you will lose your driving privileges for an extended period.

11. I know. I actually have a friend that happened to.
I'm wondering if a surgeon suffers similar consequences as a result of refusing to submit to a breath test.

6. Geez, and drinking and driving is bad enough

"Don't drink and cut . . ."

Maybe if more surgeons had to pass a breathalyzer test before going in to operate, the malpractice rates might go down . . . yeah, right -
