1000 bodies found in Iraq

Eight mass graves containing around 1000 bodies have been found near Iraq's northern oil hub of Kirkuk, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) announced on Thursday.

"Most of the victims were Kurds, as well as some Christians and Turcoman, who lived in these two majority Kurdish villages," the PUK said in a statement.

The graves were found in the villages of Al-Asri and Tubazawa, west of Kirkuk.

The news about the 1000 bodies in Iraq is horrific, but why are we not seeing more reports on Darfur? About 400,000 dead so far and the murder, kidnapping, rape, and terror continues ...

8. Article is not clear about who is said to be responsible for these graves

Also included among the victims were Shi'ites killed during the 1991 repression of an uprising by former dictator Saddam Hussein, it said."

The implication is that they are blaming Saddam for all the bodies (based on para 3), but they don't actually come out and say that. This sort of carefully worded story puts me on my guard. These people could have been killed since the U.S. invasion.

Why would Saddam have bodies of Shi'ites moved to the north, when the uprising was in the south? Something about the report doesn't add up.

9. Every time the Saddam trial makes news they

find another mass grave. What about the thousands of Iraqis the US literally buried alive during the first Iraq invasion? I read that they numbered into the 100's of thousands.
