It's been three days, which is a long, long time to be thinking about what went wrong before coming to a conclusion that some blame has to be taken. If she had done something three days ago, it would have ended it.

It took Bush three days to comment on the Indian tsunami. It's a huge period of time to NOT have an appropriate reaction.

I only saw her statement on her website. I never saw or heard anything about her statement in the media. I did see people here on DU discussing it, though.

Her original statement and the statement on the floor are actually not that different. Both acknowledge regret that the incident happened, both pledge support for the capitol police department, and both say that physical contact shouldn't have occurred. In the statement on the floor she actually says "I apologize," but that doesn't mean she's backing off her version of events.

She was an absolute distraction. She sounded stupid and quite frankly this situation was a disgrace to all of her previous accomplishments.

Many of us who agree that CMcK has been an embarrassment and have said so on this board also deserve an apology from the posters who have defended her and flamed everyone who disagreed with them. None of us really know what happened, but it's pretty safe to say the Ms. McKinney had better ways of handling the situation than she did.

All this has done is create a distraction for the corporate Media whores to talk about instead of the fall of Tom DeLay, the Bush/neoconservative disaster in Iraq, Bush knowing about and authorizing the Plame leak (why does that not surprise me), Bush knowing about the weakness of case against Saddam (and, therefore, knowing that characterizing the threat posed by Saddam as certain and proved was a pack of lies), Bush knowing in advance that hurricane Katrina would destroy the New Orleans levy system, illegal wire tapping and the arrogant "defense" thereof, etc., etc., etc.
