A man was apprehended by U.S. Secret Service officers on Sunday afternoon after jumping the fence at the White House.

The man, as yet unidentified, was screaming and standing by the stand-up location for TV crews on the White House grounds. He went to his knees after Secret Service officers pulled their guns to subdue him.

He was then taken into the White House Northwest gate house.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An unarmed man penetrated the White House fence on Sunday, screaming incoherently at security guards who pulled their guns and subdued him.

The bearded intruder, wearing ragged clothes and looking distraught, made his way several dozen yards onto the White House grounds before guards surrounded him, forced him down and dragged him away. President George W. Bush was inside the executive mansion at the time.

29. Two weeks ago when my daughter and I visited DC and did our

little silent protest in front of the White House fence, a man wearing ragged clothes had just arrived after walking 2000 miles. He had been interviewed by tv people along the way, and was there as an ex-military person to protest--loudly. I wonder if this is him. The police there at the time told him he was free to yell whatever he wanted as long as he didn't use vulgarity, which he was doing until then, and as long as he kept his backpack with him rather than leaving it unattended. The officers were smiling and they came to a peaceful agreement; he went right on yelling. He told me he planned to be there until April 20th.
