Scoop for Sioux Falls Paper: Newt Gingrich Wants U.S. Out of Iraq

Published: April 11, 2006

NEW YORK The Argus-Leader of Sioux-Falls, S.D. was on the scene Monday to report that Newt Gingrich, the former Republican Speaker of the House, had told students and faculty at the University of South Dakota that the United States should pull out of Iraq and leave only a small force there, just as it did post-war in Korea and Germany.

"It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003," Gingrich said during an informal question-and-answer session at the school, according to the newspaper. "We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."

Gingrich was greeted with a standing ovation when he appeared at the school for the inaugural Edmund Burke Lecture, named after a man who is often called the father of modern conservatism....

1. Jeez, When Are These Anti-American SADDAMITES Going To Shut Up?

ThinkProgress is busy cataloguing the flipflops:

"I think it’s easy to go back now and second-guess. But when I look back and I think about what we felt in February and March and April, I think it was the right war, it was the right decision." <Fox, Hannity & Colmes, 12/8/03>

"And instead of applauding this deliberate effort to minimize American casualties and to strengthen the Iraqis, we have some of our friends here at home who want it both ways. They want to complain that we’re not winning fast enough, and they want to complain if we take any casualties. You can’t have it both ways." <Fox, Hannity & Colmes, 9/27/04>

“I think it’s quite clear…that bin Laden and his lieutenants are monitoring the American news media, they’re monitoring public opinion polling, and I suspect they take a great deal of comfort when they see people attacking United States policies.” <1/19/06>

2. Who cares what he thinks?
Especially if he thinks he's presidential candidate material?

America's favorite "family values" adulterer states the obvious. Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with his alleged Presidential aspirations!

:sarcasm:

5. So he wants to leave a small force?
For what reason? So it can get chopped to pieces and have it's corpses dragged through the streets on TV? A small force won't be good for anything else. Iraq is not Korea or Germany. Those countries had been pacified and the local military were trained and well motivated. None of that applies in Iraq.

We have to be either all in or all out. Halfassed solutions never work.

The man is a buffoon.
