WASHINGTON: Health officials have ruled out the abortion pill RU486 as the cause of death for one of two women who died after taking the drug.

The recent deaths sparked renewed demands that the abortion pill be banned. After the latest deaths were made public in March, Republican Senators Jim DeMint of South Carolina and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma urged passage of legislation that would suspend sales of RU486.



RU486 works by blocking a hormone required to sustain a pregnancy. When followed two days later by another medicine, misoprostol, to induce contractions, the pregnancy is ended.

The only other US death associated with RU486 was a case of a ruptured ectopic, or tubal, pregnancy in 2001.

First, Viagra will cause an increase in heart rate which is a risk for any man with heart trouble. It's a known fact that men have died because of this risk. Where is DeMint & Colburn fighting to shut down this drug?
