Rove says Iran leader not rational
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060412/pl_nm/nuclear_iran_rove_dc_1
By Erwin Seba

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Reaching a diplomatic solution over Iran's nuclear ambitions will be difficult because Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is "not a rational human being," a senior White House adviser said on Wednesday.

The United States is pressing for the U.N. Security Council to take further action against Iran for pursuing its nuclear program, which the Bush administration says is a cover for producing weapons while Tehran says is for peaceful energy generation.

"We are engaged in a diplomatic process with our European partners and the United Nations to keep them from developing such a weapon," Karl Rove, deputy White House chief of staff, told an audience of business people at the Houston Forum.

"It's going to be difficult. It's going to be tough because they are led by ideologues who have a weird sense of history," he said.

13. Rove says Iran leader not rational
Reaching a diplomatic solution over Iran's nuclear ambitions will be difficult because Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is "not a rational human being," a senior White House adviser said on Wednesday.

"Ahmadinejad spoke to the United Nations and afterwards was quoted as saying that for the 23 minutes that he spoke, there was a halo around his head that transfixed the audience and caused them to be completely focused on his message," he said.

Rove noted, however, that world leaders speaking before the U.N. General Assembly are often watched attentively in silence by the delegates. Rove said that President George W. Bush, for instance, says that speaking to the General Assembly is like appearing before a "waxworks."

International pressure increased on Iran to halt its nuclear program this week after Tehran declared it had produced enriched uranium.

29. For once,
Rove is speaking a self-evident truth. By definition, a Holocaust Denier is not 'rational'. Of course, this doesn't mean Rove is a good guy or even rational himself. It only means that some 60 years after the Auschwitz smoke stacks finally stopped belching human ash, you cannot both be a rational human being and a Holocaust Denier.

67. Hear, hear -
Geez people on this board frighten me sometimes. Call a spade a spade, for crying out loud. This guy is calling for Israel to be wiped off the map and is of the same fundamentalist cloth as people in the United States who believe that the rapture is coming to a cinema near Tel Aviv.

Who cares if Rove's the one who said it? You know who else called the guy a nut recently? AL GORE. And many, MANY others. Because it's true.

Just as Onlooker says, he wasn't advocating an attack on Iran, but anyone who believes Ahmadinejad is on the level is just too blinded by hate (and partisan bullshit) to see straight.

Bush is no picnic either, but let's not go crowning the Iranian president some kind of great guy.

The country desperately needs billions to improve its oil industry and create jobs. Without that, its rulers will further lose popularity. They may resort to more jingoism and threats against the US and Israel to rally the masses and keep power.

http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=67&ItemID=10090
What is really going on here is a ratcheting war of rhetoric. The Iranian hard liners are down to a popularity rating in Iran of about 15%. They are using their challenge to the Bush administration over their perfectly legal civilian nuclear energy research program as a way of enhancing their nationalist credentials in Iran.

I thought it was pretty obvious - the guy performs virtually on cue.

We're being played by these folks on both sides.

That's the conservative (especially extremely conservative) leaders of all locations are. After all we are rarely afraid of someone elses progressive or liberals. The people we are always afraid of abroad are the same kind of people we are always afraid of at home. We need ours because they have theirs. I just thought about it: conservatives are themselves like bombs: the more they get the more we (perceive that) we need.

No doubt Rove is going to say very soon that Ahmadinejad tells lies to his own people and to the whole world...
Any Farsi speakers/readers who can attest to the there actually being any truth to the MSM assertions as to the irrationality of the Iranian President? Who of us has any corroboration as to what he is saying or doing? No doubt that the politicians in Iran will get much more mileage from demonizing Bush than Bush will generate by promoting, and then demonizing Iranian leaders. Which insulated USAns would know anything about who was running Iran? Precious few have the slightest clue!
