Rep. Kennedy Hit in the Mouth by Hammer
PAWTUCKET, R.I. - U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy was hit in the face with a hammer when an entrepreneur, demonstrating shock absorption, accidentally sent the hammer's head flying at Kennedy's mouth. Kennedy received six stitches in his bottom lip after the incident Wednesday during an economic development meeting, his spokeswoman Robin Costello said.

The entrepreneur, Matt Kriesel of Wisconsin, produces a shock-absorbing gel used sports-shoe inserts, tennis rackets and horse saddles. He was hitting some gel with a hammer to demonstrate how it reduces vibration when the hammer's head flew off.

"The congressman is a class act, he didn't make a fuss," said Michael McMahon, the executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation who attended the meeting.

Kennedy was bleeding, so his staff took him to Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, where he got the stitches, Costello said.

them in the mouth.

How embarrassing for that dude!

And I bet that hurt like hell.

12. I once purchased a "Made In China" adjustable wrench
that would not allow itself to open more than 3/4 of the way using the dial.

My father's American-made tools, which he purchased in the 70's, still work fine.

10. Exactly. Where di dthe hammer come from?
My boyfriend had a wrench that came from China and it almost killed him one day - he won't buy any tools now that are not made in the USA.

33. forged steel is what you want
one-piece forged-steel hammers are the tools of choice in the construction trades, you get hurt if you use anything less than that. I wouldn't necessarily distrust a Chinese-made hammer if it could
meet those specs. Maybe if there were enough Chinese lawyers to sue their factories for making lousy hammers? In the meantime, I try to stick with the good ole 'Estwing' brand, made in USA, I think.

hammer was made.

They keep telling us that the Chinese stuff is the same quality. It sells for the same price perhaps, but it is not the same quality. That applies to almost everything.

About 25 years ago, I bought an American hammer. There were two seemingly identical hammers in the hardware store, one for $7.95 and one for $4.95. I asked what the difference was. I was told there was no difference. I asked why one was $7.95 and one was $4.95. The salesman said one was made in America; one was made in China.

I bought the $7.95 American hammer, figuring that I wanted the people who live around me to be employed. Now, all these years later, I know that it would not have been the same quality, and I would likely have been forced to buy a new hammer by now. Not only did I save jobs, I saved myself money.

My American hammer will outlive me.

32. Is Kennedy well liked in RI? Is there a Democratic Challenger to
what's his face? You know that punk Republican that won his father's seat. And, for those in the know, would have the old man let Bush get away with this bullshit? I remember the old man as a war hero and straight shooter. Too bad the kid turned out to be such a loser.
