Republican 'unity' may be slow in coming (CA-50 runoff)
NORTH COUNTY ---- Even before Brian Bilbray appeared to clinch a narrow victory Tuesday over 13 other Republican rivals to run against Democrat Francine Busby in eight short weeks to replace disgraced former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham, supporters called on the field to "unite" behind Bilbray's candidacy.

But a day later, it appeared that unity could be slow in coming.

Eric Roach, Bilbray's nearest Republican rival, said Wednesday through campaign managers that he might ask for a recount of votes cast in the sprawling 50th District ---- a move that would delay Republican solidarity in the weeks of campaigning left before June 6.

...snip...

On Wednesday morning, with nearly 100 percent of the votes counted, Bilbray had apparently eked out a narrow victory over Roach, with 15.15 percent of the vote, to Roach's 14.46 percent.

3. Let the vermin cannibalize each other...
and let Busby breeze toward victory in the Repug-heavy district. That would send a strong message.

4. Don't they use Diebold there?
I'm suprised a Republican didn't win outright.

7. There is only so much that a programmer in the pay of Diebold and ES&S
can do with "TRADE SECRET' code, without tipping their hand. Busby probably won hands down (no run-off needed). I figure a 5% to 10% thumb on the scales for Bushites and warmongers.

They need this fraudulent, non-transparent, rightwing Bushite controlled election system for future use, and in bigger elections (overall Congress in '06, and Prez in '08, to safeguard the war machine and tax cuts--and prevent serious investigations). They don't want to put it in jeopardy. Ergo, big turnouts can beat the machines, at least in some cases.

But figure we have to get 5% to 10% more than is needed, just to win.

And we need to clue other voters in on the game. Bumper sticker: "Help us beat the machines--VOTE!"

5. The slower and more obstructive, the better. In fact, as marmar says,

I hope the Republicans claw the flesh from each other's bones over this and that Francine Busby coasts to an impressive and dazzling win on June 6th in California.

Go, Francine.

11. and this could work to help Francine.
There is still a GOP race for the nomination for the November election. Why would supporters of the other candidate (not Bilbry) want to elect Bilbry to the short term seat?

Let them beat each other up.

12. I'm all for it, ronnykmarshall. It would be a sweet thing if Francine
Busby could sit in Cunningham's old seat.

8. Bush's fascist bud Berlusconi in Italy is doing the same thing.
These hogs own the war profiteering corporate news monopolies. Their pockets are stuffed with trillions of corporate and taxpayer dollars. They can buy anything they need--from "black ops" to million dollar TV commercials. They live in luxury, while slaughtering, looting and oppressing everybody else. They can purchase politicians and governments by the dozen. They can spy on everyone on the planet, and commandeer the US war machine to their private purposes. They can even get their rightwing buds installed as the "counters" of all American votes.

Then they whi-i-i-i-i-i-i-ine about rigged elections. You gotta laugh, that's all.

10. This could be interesting.
You have to remember that the same republicans in the first round will also be on the ballot in June for the GOP nomination along with the runoff.

So, why would these GOP'er want to "unite" behind the same guy they want to beat for the GOP nomination?

13. Because the GOP scare machine will be out in full force
"If you don't vote for the Republican nominee, then Democrats will take over congress and invite Bin Laden over for breakfast, throw our soldiers in prison, make abortion mandatory, have gay sex on street corners, etc etc etc"

14. If Bilbray wins, we are moving.
I live in the 50th. Only person in my hood with a yard sign, for Busby of course. Not very political area, although a few minutes away where my mom lives everyone had yard signs, mostly for Busby.

Bilbray is a jackass. I cannot stand that pig.

15. Voter turnout was abominable.
My daughter worked for the Busby campaign and despite friendly, positive reception from Dems while doing door-to-door canvassing, Democratic voter turnout was only 14% of registered. The 50th is one of the wealthiest districts in the state. If the Dem voters don't give enough of a shit to get out and vote, they deserve whatever crappy, crooked reTHUG they get.
