Man who comandeered bus after Katrina indicted....
Man who gained fame comandeering bus after Katrina indicted on drug and gun charges

http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tpupdates/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tpupdates/archives/2006_04_13.html#131057

The hero-to-villain odyssey of Jabar Gibson took another nose-dive Thursday when the 21-year-old was indicted on federal drug and gun charges, less than eight months after he gained national acclaim for driving a group of Hurricane Katrina evacuees from New Orleans to Houston in a commandeered school bus.

Gibson faces from 5 to 25 years behind bars if convicted on charges of cocaine trafficking, heroin trafficking and possessing a gun while dealing drugs. Authorities said Gibson was carrying 1.7 grams of cocaine, an undisclosed amount of heroin and a .357-caliber revolver when he was caught by New Orleans narcotics detectives and federal agents on Jan. 7.

2. I have a different take on this
Even junkies can show heroic compassion

Even the most seemingly degraded human has the ability to perform acts of great heoism and selflessness

3. I totally agree with you. The young man did the right thing.

He showed compassion and took the initiative to rescue people and take care of his fellow human beings.
His heroism during Katrina was awesome.
Perhaps, he had no other way to support himself post-Katrina.
I will not pass judgement upon him.
I'm sure that no white, upper-middle class drug users in NOLA have been arrested recently. :( :sarcasm:
It's not fair, this crazy "war on drugs."

5. 1.7 grams of cocaine, that doesn't seem like a lot
An "undisclosed amount of heroin" could be a microgram.

I thought Americans had the right to bear arms.

5 to 25 years?

6. I feel compassion for him. No judgement here. I'd go easy on him
if I was the judge or jury. Ordinary people can do great things. Maybe he needs another chance at leadership in some other capacity.

9. He and all the other Katrina survivors need our help, I think that
Jabbar Gibson may also need drug treatment to overcome addiction to the drugs that the CIA and others are flooding the country with.

12. The kid did a great thing when he rescued those people...
...nothing will ever change that. Just goes to show he does care about people and won't put up with the bullshit society tells him what he can and can't do. Cheers to that. I wish he wouldn't deal drugs, but who am I to tell him not to make money?

21. So much for hopes of a made-for-TV-movie
which would have sucked anyway. :P

This man is still a fucking hero to me.

Frankly, most of my heroes have had 'drug issues' at one time or another

I hope he finds some peace of mind and heart through his life, he is obviously a remarkable guy.
