Owens(R fundy idiot) sinks morning-after pill (with idiot "logic")
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 07:53 AM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Those of us who reside in CO suffer with having a blithering idjit as gov, who can't get in front of a camera fast enough to spout his moronic ravings and who shamelessly panders to the furthest right of the political spectrum.

His logic for the veto: "In his veto message, Owens said the bill "strays radically from the accepted norms of medicine" by shifting prescribing power to pharmacists."

Yet he's on record as praising the ability of of health care professionals and institutions to decline to offer emergency contraception or even tell a woman where she can obtain it...isn't that shifting prescribing power, as well?

Italics mine.

By Mark P. Couch
Denver Post Staff Writer

Gov. Bill Owens on Thursday vetoed a bill that would have made it easier for women to get emergency contraception.

The rejection of House Bill 1212 is the second time in two years Owens has disappointed women's health groups and elated abortion foes.

This year's bill would have given pharmacists an unprecedented power in Colorado - the ability to dispense medication without a physician's prescription.

In his veto message, Owens said the bill "strays radically from the accepted norms of medicine" by shifting prescribing power to pharmacists. He added that the medication is currently "widely available" with a physician's prescription.

Unless the pharmacist "strays radically from the accepted norms of medicine" by refusing to fill the prescription.

Here's his comments on another bill requiring rape victims to be advised of where they could obtain Plan B contraception.

"While this bill did offer health-care professionals the right to decline to offer emergency contraception due to religious or moral beliefs, it did not offer those same protections to health-care institutions. This is wrong. And it is unconstitutional."

I guess you can tell he's not a favorite of mine.:) MKJ

3. We'll find out in November, :-) My favorite thing he did to show his true
moronic colors was to go on the Today Show, years ago, and blatantly accuse the Ramseys of killing Jon Benet. Now, I would agree they are very suspect, however, having the gov go on the Today show and say "They did it and I know it." was over the top.

No one could believe he was stupid enough to do it...but, he was.

When he signed a bill to require CSAP testing for all students attending public schools, he famously refused to take the test, himself, even though several other legislators did so (with varying results).

Here in the Denver Metro area, I don't know too many people who have a high opinion of him. There is probably a lot of love for the gov in Colorado Springs.

I could go on and on. BTW, he has many skeletons in his closet, so any talk of him running for president (which we hear about, ad nauseum) is merely "wild speculation."

4. What is it with these repukes?
Your mentioning his characterization of the Ramsays as being guilty reminds me of Nixon, who during the trial of Charles Manson said the same thing.

How can we be in the late 60's/early 70's and be in 2006 at the same time? Is this why I always feel so confused about reality? Do we have some bizarre time-warp thing going on?!!!

I don't like it. How do I find the door back to my own universe?

6. I think we just need to take this to the logical extreme.
Like demand retail sales clerks be allowed to refuse to sell alcoholic beverages because it offends our faith, caffeine containing products because it offends our faith, makeup because it encourages women to display their sexuality, condoms and k-y jelly because they encourage sexual activity, cigarettes because they are harmful, candy because it is unhealthy for teeth and is fattening, meat products because it involves killing innocent animals.

Anything you can think of that might "morally" offend someone, we should call these idiot legislators who think doctors and pharmacists should be able to "opt out" of and demand those rights be expanded to all people to from the highest to the lowest paid positions to refuse to sell to anyone based on our moral beliefs.

Why should pharmacists get "special rights"?

7. Do we really want to let pharmacist prescribe medications?
Doctors go through many years of school to do that, but pharmacist only go through four, am I right? Are pharmacist qualified to recognize what ails a person and prescibe medication for it?

8. Six years to become a pharmacists.
And I have no problem with their being a tier of drugs that pharmacists have the authority to prescribe.

Pharmacists in many first world countries can already prescribe certain non-otc medications for things from coughs and colds to emergency contraception to conjuctivitis.

This is not something new.

9. And also, doctors aren't the only one's who can prescribe anyway.
Naturopaths, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and a host of other non-physicians have prescriptive authority in many states.

11. Agree, Psyciatrists and others too... my problem isn't there.
My problem is that they shouldn't have the right to refuse to deliver medicine because they don't agree with it. If they are unwilling to do their Job they need to be able to work it out with their employer caught in the middle. Next we will have people refusing to innoculate Women with the new cancer vaccination. (Sorry, I'm a male, I'm not THAT up to date on it past a basic knowledge) As the reason being because God wills women to be susceptable to that disease. This is about as logical of a reaction as refusing to take Pennicillin based products because God wanted you to get sick.

Bill Owens is far more competent than George W Bush... That being said he's still a far right pandering butthead who would rather sing to the hate crowd than actually do real good for the people of Colorado because that would interfere with his power base.

10. Even OTC drugs can cause problems.
If you don't believe it, wash down a handful of Contac with a big bottle of Nyquil. Then get back to me.

If a woman realizes that she just had unprotected sex, she ought to be able to get the pills she needs to prevent pregnancy.

14. I almost wish these money hungry marketing geniuses
that never came out with the "Morning After" Pill. All it is is high dose, what we older women already took, BIRTH CONTROL pills. Give a woman a one month's supply of progestin only birth control pills, tell her to take 2 or 3 a day for a few days, and there is your "Morning After" pill.

Geesch. What do they think women who are already ON the pill do when they forget to take them? Morning After? Hell, a LOT of woman are taking the "morning after" PILLS (plural).

Are people really this STUPID?????
