Top Iranian commander warns US against military attack
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060414/wl_mideast_afp/irannuclearpoliticsus_060414175203

TEHRAN (AFP) - The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned the United States not to attack the Islamic republic, saying American troops in Iraq and the region were "vulnerable."

"You can start a war but it won't be you who finishes it," General Yahya Rahim Safavi, one of the regime's most powerful figures, said of the United States.

"The Iranian armed forces are totally ready to defend the country. If the Americans attack Iran, they will be making a second strategic error after their attack against Iraq," warned the general, who was speaking on the sidelines of a pro-Palestinian conference in Tehran.

"The Americans know better than anyone that their troops in the region and in Iraq are vulnerable. I would advise them not to commit such a strategic error," he said.

2. yahoo news is fulla shit...
General Safavi actually said Turkey better not attack Greece, cuz Greece is more then willing to cook the Turkish goose! How Yahoo got the US and Iran mixed up in the Turkish, Greece and Botswana (Botswana warns both Turkey and Greece that they're on the menu!) situation...well, a deep voodoo psychiatrist should try sort it out, but we at DU shouldn't waste our time...btw, is it true Madonna's got the mumps?
(Yahoo news is only a few years old, yet they've become stick-in-the-muds right off the bat! Old men with tiny dicks springing to attention for bushy... sheese)

3. what are you talking about?
This is an AFP article distributed on Yahoo. I don't see anything wrong with it? AFP is extremely reliable.

4. too bad yahoo wouldn't focus on the real crooked dealers...
all I'm saying Leftchick....i must confess that nailing bushco is now an obsession, a thing that sustains me, makes me greedily watch listen and search everything-the moment the busheviks cross the line and the US turns on them BANG BANG! your post probably featured yahoo only incidentally; more interested in the issue of provacation/reaction that the bush and iran govs are playing, while it seems that the very act of focusing on this means yahoo is hiding the fact that criminals are running amok in washington....time is wasting, and there's going to be hell to pay, mark my words....

6. It's working
Their tuff talk will drive up the price of oil next week which is their strategy.

Look at the uranium enrichment breakthrough. Why the need to tell the whole world about it? You think they would want to keep something like this a secret. The answer: the price of oil went to record levels after the announcement. With more talk, tests, announcements, rants, etc. the price of oil will go higher.

7. Yep
They make more money. Thats the point. Not war.

In reality they are a shell. In an open war they would fall the same as Iraq did in 90's. They have no way to protect their airspace. That is all that matters and all that needs to be said.

8. They are making money
but who is hurting the most from these prices? It's two fold and it is another form of warfare(economic) This will be how they come at us if we launch an attack on them. By blowing up every port in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula with missiles as noted by Mr. Hersh. The attacks don't need to be totally successful. The markets will go through the roof on speculation alone.

But everyone in this country needs to understand their lives will be more than likely effected by this event if it should happen. We are not just talking about higher oil/gas prices we will be talking about loss of jobs. Just the preparation for such an attack will send oil prices out of control. Who knows what the price will be before we even start the attack. Once it gets to a certain price our economy is going to start taking some hits. It may take years for it to recover. How much revenue will be coming into the federal government after that?
