Rumsfeld rejects calls to quit
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 03:34 PM by Julius Civitatus
This is his way of saying "I ain't goin' anywhere, bitches":

Rumsfeld rejects calls to quit

DUBAI (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld rejected demands by retired generals for his resignation, saying it would be a "merry-go-round" if officials were changed every time they were criticised.

"Out of thousands and thousands of admirals and generals, if every time two or three people disagreed we changed the Secretary of State of the United States it would be like a merry-go-round," Rumsfeld told Al Arabiya television in an interview aired on Friday. (...)

See, Cheney & Rummy are the guys behind the wheel. They are the neocons at the helm. Bush does what they tell him to do.

11. Yup. Is this how he feels... or slip of the tongue???
Either he just says he really acts and feels like the Sec. of State...

or there's a major shuffling of positions in the works. Maybe Cheney is out, Condi moves to the VP chair, and Rummy moves to Sec. of State.

29. Sec of STATE apparently a mistranslation
It appears that the Secretary of State was garbled during the double translation. It was initially picked up that way by Reuters and by ABC. Even Friday night at 11:00, the local ABC affiliate (WRAL) read the story as SoS, although the accompanying video had Rumsfeld saying Defense.

A few sites showed it as "Secretary of State for Defence" which might have been the initial translation.

It is interesting to see how a small error like this propogates through various stories.

7. Liar, Liar...From "Rumsfeld's Rules"...on "Resignations"...
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 03:56 PM by Dunvegan

"Be able to resign. It will improve your value to the President and do wonders for your performance."

- Donald Rumsfeld, "Rumsfeld's Rules"

Be "able to resign", which actually means just pretend and feign honor...but damn well make bloody sure you have the power to force the president to always beg you to stay, so you'll NEVER REALLY resign.

*Edited to add radfringe's "pants on fire" emoticon.

9. Despite our dear Lord PissyPant's decree (statement ) earlier today ...
Rummy's on the ropes. If Rumsfeld falls, then so do the PNAC ghouls who work for him. Second to John Bolton, I can't conceive of any other RW shill that would continue to do the damage that Rumsfeld is doing to our Armed Forces.

I hope and pray that more and more General Officers and Senior Enlisted RESIGN in protest. If we have those brave and patriotic souls recently separated from "Rummy's Disaster" continue to SPEAK OUT, we can shed ourselves of the absolute worst Secretary of Defense we ever had.

Remember that even when Mcnamara left, one could note a vein of humbleness in his character. He still was obstinate and consider himself 100% right. But Rumsfeld? He's seemingly like the cyborg dreams he's promoting in the so called "Army of the 21st Century."

We must keep the pressure on ... for the LOVE of our Armed Forces! They will always come a far second in the PNAC civilian leadership of OUR Military.

10. "Cheney & Rummy are the guys behind the wheel...[then] Bush..."
As per ginnyinWI: removing Rummy would break up the "act"

They're like the Three Stooges:

Cheney is Moe--the meanest and the idea man--but he's only smart by comparison with the other two.

Rummy is Larry--a nasty disposition and stupid solutions to problems!

Bush is Curly --so stupid that he's funny. Says strange words. Makes strange faces. Has a temper!

Strange faces?? Has a temper??

12. Didn't Rummy already tender his resignation a year ago?
Here's an article from Feb 2005: http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPOLITICS/02/03/rumsfeld.resign/

I'm sure it was BS from the start, but it is on record that he asked to resign due to Abu Gharib and Bush declined.

13. We need a coup!
Let's hope the military finally realizes that they are fighting for a small, corrupt, cabal of idiots and not the United States of America.
Then, the coup.

Also, I enjoyed the Three Stooges comparison text, but I like those original Stooges too much to compare them to the Evil 3!

Rumsfeld Defended Amid Calls for His Resignation
By Peter Spiegel, Times Staff Writer
11:27 AM PDT, April 14, 2006

WASHINGTON -- The White House voiced support again today for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, one day after the ranks of retired senior generals calling for his resignation grew.

Bush brushed aside a chorus of calls for Rumsfeld's resignation over his handling of the war against Iraq and brusque management style. Instead, Bush praised Rumsfeld's leadership, saying the defense secretary provides "exactly what is needed at this critical period."

"I have seen first-hand how Don relies upon our military commanders in the field and at the Pentagon to make decisions about how best to complete these missions," Bush said in a statement. "He has my full support and deepest appreciation."

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Charles H. Swannack Jr., who commanded the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq shortly after the toppling of Saddam Hussein, on Thursday became the fifth general involved in Iraq policy to call for Rumsfeld to resign, citing his handling of the war.

20. Pack hunting
You know how wild dogs hunt,
when they run after a herd,
one bites at the front,
second neck bites, rear leg bit third.

Down the beast goes,
flashing white teeth, viscous snarls.
blood tearing, last dying throes,
ruthless consumers growling out quarrels.

Six teeth in rumsfleld,
beast wobbling ever so,
move east with new war rommel,
and the furher'll make iran glow.
Dogs take him down in a pack,
nothing but teeth, rumsfeld big mack.

I read the title of the thread and the first thing I thought was, "Who is the reject that called to quit?" After I read the OP, I sat here for a minute thinking what does that have to do with the reject? Then I realized what I did-LOL. Better go to bed now.

24. Rumsfeld is already toast !
We just have to go through the motions of recruiting "the guys in white lab coats" for the mission to extract Rummy's incompetent butt out.

The calls for his resignation are only going to INCREASE because these Retired General Officers have just kicked open the proverbial *flood gates.*

If you think * was taken aback by having to force Brown to resign, the shock waves from retired military persons coming forward will figuratively knock him on his a**.

I can't wait because, IMO, it's long overdue.

26. Wait till they start bombing Iran...
Everyone will forget about Rummy's incompetence, Cheney's scandals, Chimpy's own scandals and the mess they put us in. It will be "terra, terra" and fearmongering all the time. They'll switch Chimpy to his "I'ma war president" routine.

All these scandals and calls for these incompetent neocons to resign will be quickly forgotten and brushed aside by the media. Wait and see.

25. "Global War on Terror".
"Earlier today I spoke with Don Rumsfeld about ongoing military operations in the Global War on Terror. I reiterated my strong support for his leadership during this historic and challenging time for our Nation."

Copied from the White House site:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/04/20060414.html

Why is "Global War on Terror" capitalized, as if it's a brand, or even just a recognized and distinctive event?

Those guys are all about P.R. and P.R. is all they know. They are incompetent, and that is why they have to cheat and manipulate and attack their opponents. Their policies are devoid of competence, so they must paste on a veneer and do a lot of cleaning up after they make a mess.

I mean, somebody consciously decided to capitalize Global War on Terror, presumably because they wanted to attach some semblance of official-ness to it. How pathetic.

32. Rummy shouldn't quit!
Considering how bad he's fucked things up, he should do the honorable thing. Fall on his sword like the Romans did. Wait... that's too honorable. Eat his gun! Now we're talking! Just put that .45 in his mouth and see how many rounds he can get off.

Bloodthirsty? Nope. How many good lives has this person cost us... how much suffering?
