Local GOP debt to Noe may hamstring party
Doesn't this just make you want to get up and dance with glee?

The Tom Noe saga could continue into this year’s local elections for the Lucas County Republican Party, potentially crippling its ability to help candidates.

Months after the party decided to convert $63,000 in outstanding loans from Mr. Noe into contributions, prosecutors say they believe the party cannot waive the debt. Election officials and a special prosecutor are examining whether the party violated Ohio campaign finance laws.

Julia Bates, the county prosecutor, said yesterday she has referred the matter to Lynn Grimshaw, a special prosecutor working in southern Ohio. Ms. Bates said the party asked Mr. Noe to drop the loan but said documents show he was “not in a position to forgive the loan.”

What irks the party further is how the loans originated. The party’s bylaws say the executive committee must approve all obligations exceeding $5,000. Neither in 2002 nor in 2004 did the committee vote on the loans. Instead, they were reportedly accepted by Mr. Noe’s wife, Bernadette, when she was chairman of the party.

The elections board has told the Ohio Elections Commission that the party failed to amend two reports, from 1999 and 2000, that were $28,600 off. The commission has several options: find there is a violation and fine the party; find there is a violation and refer it back to prosecutors, or find there is not a violation.

1. This is a HILARIOUS report. Republican wheeling-dealing at its finest.
Sine the whole world will be watching, it will be very difficult for them to suddenly FIND the money is there after all, and there's no shortage. No one can slip it in when no one's looking after some shifty Abramoff-like Republican fund-raiser suddenly produces it.

Once again, the elusive, but always present ROGUE element is responsible for the whole damned thing! From the article:
Jon Stainbrook, who is running for the chairmanship of the county GOP, said he has the ability to raise money for the party. But he said he’s upset that the party has to keep dealing with the fallout from its association with Mr. Noe.

“I’m sick and tired of the entire party taking a hit for one bad apple,” Mr. Stainbrook said.

Oh, yeah! Lotsa dancing!

2. They love that "bad apple"analogy, don't they.
Everything they do wrong is always because of a "bad apple".

But when it comes to policymaking, they invoke the worst case scenario to cripple everyone with a broad brush.

9. Don't mind it too much...
The old farm knowledge is that one bad apple can spoil most of a container of apples, given a little time.

5. oh what a tangled web
"upset that the party has to keep dealing with the fallout from its association with Mr. Noe."

“I’m sick and tired of the entire party taking a hit for one bad apple,” Mr. Stainbrook said.

He was probably your best friend when you were getting money from him. Now that he is a liability you want nothing to do with him. Guess what, you take the good with the bad, and you do have to clean up the messes. Maybe the party of personal responsibility should be more than just a bumper sticker slogan you sniveling baby.

6. Recommended
If the state AG were competent or had a shred of decency he'd sue the party to recover this debt to offset what Noe stole from the worker's comp fund.
