Ethnic Cleansing Grows In Iraq

BAGHDAD, April 15, 2006 (UPI) -- Violence in Iraq reportedly has hit unprecedented levels, with government officials reporting signs of growing ethnic cleansing between Shiites and Sunnis.

The fairground in al-Kut, south of Baghdad, for example, is filled with former residents of the capital now living in tents, The Times of London said.

The Shiite refugees have fled their predominantly Sunni neighborhoods where, before the U.S. occupation and subsequent terrorist activity, they lived in peace, the newspaper said.

Sattar Nawruz, spokesman for the Ministry of Displacement and Migration said 65,000 have been forced from their homes within the past two weeks alone.

6. I grant them that defense to a certain extent.

I doubt they are being given all the information about the enemy they are fighting. Our troops are told to go here, Blow up this target, Engage these people, secure this sector etc. etc. etc. by any means necessary and with extreme prejudice. That is what being a soldier is and I wouldn't change that. It's the order givers more than the followers we have to hold accountable. Luckily there are still light years of difference between Fallujah and Auschwitz (light-months maybe?) even though atrocities were obviously willingly done by some. I just pray that all our soldiers have the strength to call their superiors on things and refuse truly immoral orders. I think that's about the best you can hope for in any combat situation that your troops are involved in.
