Skilling Pits His Word Against Witnesses'
Tomorrow morning, the prosecutors in Enron trial get to start asking Skilling questions. This should be the very interesting this week. I am really looking forward to this.

Former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling's lawyers spent more than two months assailing most prosecution witnesses in his fraud and conspiracy trial for their lack of hard evidence in accusing him of participating in a massive fraud.

But in Skilling's first four exhaustive days on the witness stand last week, he was equally lacking in notes, e-mails or other tangible proof to corroborate his consistent, adamant claims that prosecution witnesses either lied outright or misunderstood situations they perceived as sinister.

"It's an uphill battle," said Michael Wynne, a former federal prosecutor in Houston who has observed much of the trial, including Skilling's testimony, firsthand. "Skilling would have this jury believe every other witness has lied, perjured themselves, and his is the only correct version."

Lay aims to testify later this month in the only witness stand appearance as highly anticipated as that of his company's former CEO.
